| 2H, A440f vs H55f RPM at highway speeds I've currently got an A440f and it's really not a bad tranny (for an automatic ) in the 2H. At 2500 RPM in 4th I'm at about 72MPH (116KPH). I'm running stock tires/suspension.
I'm almost ready to start a frame swap and am contemplating switching from the A440f to an H55f (auto to manual) at the same time. Anyone with the 2H/H55F combo have any RPM numbers for highway speeds? Or how fast are you going at 2500 RPM in 5th?

cheers,

| With 31" tires (but 1/2 worn out) I get similar numbers to your 4 speed. I was running from Seattle to Vancouver yesterday and played a bit with Speed and Rpm. From memory, 100 kph was about 2100 rpm and 120kph was around 2700 - I'll be on the highway tonight and I'll check and repost. I also only got about 18 mpg - maybe I should lean more towards the 100kmph than the 120

| My HJ60 with H55F, 4.11s, and 33" tires does about 65-70mph/105-110kph at 2500. Maybe a hair less. I don't normally cruise at this RPM, though the motor is very quiet at 2500 with wide open throttle.

| Thanks, guys.
So it sounds like going from an A440f to an H55f is really more about the lower first gear than the benefit of an overdrive. I prefer MT's, and it's definitely the route I'll go when the automatic eventually goes, but I think I'll let it die with dignity after all.
Here are those gear ratios: A440f 1st2.950 2nd1.530 3rd1.000 4th0.717 R2.678 Tfr L1.959 H55f 1st4.843 2nd2.619 3rd1.516 4th1.000 5th0.845 R4.843 Tfr L2.296 And, for good measure, H42(1981+) 1st3.555 2nd2.292 3rd1.410 4th1.000 R4.271 Tfr L2.276 H41 1st4.925 2nd2.643 3rd1.519 4th1.000 R4.925 Tfr L1.992

| Yeah, I didn't realize 4th gear was that long on the A440f either. Now I want a MT with a low first gear and a 0.717 top gear....time to start looking for a 6-speed.

That explains a lot. my wife has the A440 and I almost thought it had an overdrive gear as it seems to 'double shift' from 3rd to 4th. Also, it is an absolute dog in 4th on hills.

| Yeah, I only race people downhill with my A440. I just pretend I'm sight-seeing when I'm going up.
