2H, A440f vs H55f RPM at highway speeds

I've currently got an A440f and it's really not a bad tranny (for an automatic ) in the 2H. At 2500 RPM in 4th I'm at about 72MPH (116KPH). I'm running stock tires/suspension.

I'm almost ready to start a frame swap and am contemplating switching from the A440f to an H55f (auto to manual) at the same time. Anyone with the 2H/H55F combo have any RPM numbers for highway speeds? Or how fast are you going at 2500 RPM in 5th?

about 100 KPH. for me it turns too high with 4.11 gears, and I am swapping in 3.73s.

cheers,

With 31" tires (but 1/2 worn out) I get similar numbers to your 4 speed. I was running from Seattle to Vancouver yesterday and played a bit with Speed and Rpm. From memory, 100 kph was about 2100 rpm and 120kph was around 2700 - I'll be on the highway tonight and I'll check and repost. I also only got about 18 mpg - maybe I should lean more towards the 100kmph than the 120

My HJ60 with H55F, 4.11s, and 33" tires does about 65-70mph/105-110kph at 2500. Maybe a hair less. I don't normally cruise at this RPM, though the motor is very quiet at 2500 with wide open throttle.

Checking again
2200 RPM 100Km/h
2500 RPM 110Km/h
2700 RPM 120Km/h

1500RPM 70Km/h

All speeds in 5th gear

Stock axles and 1/2 worn 31" tires

Hope this helps

I think the final drive in A440 and H55f are the same or very close.

Try these online calculators to test your speedo and tacho.

Thanks, guys.

So it sounds like going from an A440f to an H55f is really more about the lower first gear than the benefit of an overdrive. I prefer MT's, and it's definitely the route I'll go when the automatic eventually goes, but I think I'll let it die with dignity after all.

Here are those gear ratios:

A440f
1st
2.950
2nd
1.530
3rd
1.000
4th
0.717

H55f

3rd
1.516
4th

5th

And, for good measure,
H42(1981+)

Yeah, I didn't realize 4th gear was that long on the A440f either. Now I want a MT with a low first gear and a 0.717 top gear....time to start looking for a 6-speed.

That explains a lot. my wife has the A440 and I almost thought it had an overdrive gear as it seems to 'double shift' from 3rd to 4th. Also, it is an absolute dog in 4th on hills.

Yeah, I only race people downhill with my A440. I just pretend I'm sight-seeing when I'm going up.
