Which Engine, Too Many Choices

Hey fellas, first thread into the diesel board.
I am planning a build that should probably be in another section but the engine questions belong here. This truck is going to be an all-around vehicle. Street driven somewhat capable in rocks and mud but not dedicated to any one offroad area.
here is a list of what I want to put in/on it:
Fj40 frame
Fj45 cab
flatbed
Dana 60 front/rear
tires in the 36" range
SM465
np205
diesel engine???
What engine would be best in this setup. I am wanting something very tough and dependable and still have parts available locally. And I think I have picked out the axles and trans/tcase for that goal. Diesels are tough dependable but I do not know about the different engines or if they are any that could even be bolted to a SM465. I do not want a Chevy diesel from a the 80s-90's I have not heard anything good about them.
Any help would be appreciated.

Probably the cheapest way to go would be a Cummins 4BT.

In the Toyota range, I sure like the ole 1HZ. No replacement for displacement.... That said, Id look at a 13BT pretty hard as well.

On the Toyota side, the 1HZ will be your best bet for a current engine
and regular parts availability.

Welcome to the diesel board.....

But the key question is compatibility with the SM465 and easy local parts availability... Are the Cummins compatible?

Here's some threads to read. I believe the Chebbys get better over time.

Sure that 4Bt will bolt right on up to that SM465.
