umm? why not throw a turbo on it instead of gettin one custom made and turboing later, as far as i know there is no off the shelf header for a 3b except a 13bt or 3bt manifold which is made for a turbo.

When I bought it, the guy sold me a turbo with it. The headers that are on it are really rusty and I think it really needs some that are in better condition.

Can you post a picture of it?

Does it fit a turbo now? Is it a turbo manifold you are after or "edelbrock" type headers? If it's "headers" you are after you might have a hard time finding them. If you want a stock naturally aspirated manifold there are many out there. Post in the wanted diesel parts section.

Cheers.

My engine is at a friends shop. I'll try to post some pics of it this week.

Search Roberto "threads" and you can see his Bj42 with the strange headers. Look interesting! But I would rather a turbo.

I know this is a little off topic, but does any one have a recommendation for a muffler to quiet this beast down. I plan to do a full "sound proofing" this summer, but it would be nice to be able to pull into a drive through (once a year) and talk without killing the engine.

The header listed above isn't at a bad price... improve air flow with a header, maybe replace the cat. with a NOx scrubber and add a big fat muffler and get no net change in back pressure? The ideal, of course, would be to have a net improvement in flow...

it is a pita shutting it down for a second, and if you have a turbo you have to time it down...

I would think the motor alone would make enough engine noise so the person couldn't hear you.

Most of the noise is from the engine IMOP. A decent sound proofing on the hood will help.

I just had a new resonator installed prior to my muffler on my diesel Mercedes, replaced the pipes with holes, and it is hugely quieter.

With out a turbo, shutting down for second or two is no biggie. With a turbo, if you sitting at TH the wait is long enough with 20 cars in front of you that the turbo will be cool enough to not care.

I'm definitely going to do as thorough of sound proofing as I can: cabin as well as engine compartment. I expect that will help a lot. Still want quieter exhaust so the people waiting for bus stop looking disappointed when I come over the hill.

I've seen where to place a EGT sensor on the exhaust manifold. Where would I put it if I go with headers?

Hmm... you're starting to convince me. More power and quieter? it's hard to beat that.

Anyone have a good (read inexpensive) source for a quality turbo?

i've been told junkyards are the place to look.

I've been thinking about it too but I think I'd have to get a special manifold. I have a 3BII and I'm not sure if flipping the manifold will fit underneath the hood, without complex tubing and whatnot
