| Extreme A442F Changeover Time for a new thread instead of continuing to hijack mac's... http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.p...14#post1455414
After sitting on the dock for over 2 weeks, the consolidators finally destuffed the container holding my Extreme A442F on Thursday. I travelled to the mainland Friday morning and was able to pay the freight company, clear customs, and pick it up before noon. Yahoo!
Here it is:
I delivered it to Metro Toyota in Duncan this morning and they'll install it tomorrow. I can't wait to get back on the road. 3 months downtime is too long.
Hopefully, I'll have "first impressions" driving report tomorrow night.
-Steve

| Currently running an A440, I can hardly wait for you to post your impressions of the A442 Extreme. I've heard good things, but not from anyone first-hand. If you don't mind, what did the Extreme upgrade cost you? I'm currently looking at an H55 as a replacement when/if the A440 craps out.
BTW: Friggin' sweet lookin' transmission! I hope it operates as well as it looks!

In July, I overheated and damaged the torque converter and oil pump body. Replacement costs for those two items, plus an Extreme valve body changeover added up to almost 2/3 of the price of an entire unit from Rodney. It didn't make sense to spend that much money to patch a transmission in questionable condition; what else was damaged or badly worn in there?
The downsides are the shipping costs and long wait: $800 AUD from Rodney's shop to Vancouver, $70 USD plus $30 CAD port and warehouse fees, plus my time to clear customs, pick it up form the warehouse, and deliver to the installer. Plus, I get to pay to return the core back to Rodney; I hear that it's already sold to a customer in England after rebuilding.
I paid a premium for peace of mind knowing that I would get a quality unit that I could rely on for many years to come. I'm happy with that decision.
I drove the Cruiser home last night and it was nice to have it back on the road. I'm not noticing much difference from how I remember it driving 3 months ago. It seems to hold 3'rd a bit longer when accelerating. Up shifts are smooth; but shifting was smooth before too. It didn't downshift while climbing the Malahat last night and I ended up downshifting manually; I'll spend some more time with it to see if/when it will downshift. More to come later...

| Question is, what are the temps now(most important), and did it impact fuel mileage.
Glad to hear you are back on the road. Got your message a day late. Perhaps next time!
