bj42 3b turbo getting hot ????

Please I have done a search but want some answers more directed to my problem
My truck is getting hot at speed and climbing long steep hills. I have changed thermostat (82c) and am running max amount of coolant recommendedalthough someone told me more water and less coolant would be more efficent. No mud in radiator but has not been professionally cleaned. What temp range is considered normal and what point is it actually considered to be overheating. How do you know if the water pump is shot.

hey BJ.. ironpaw here..

heres a bit of info that might help.. just keep in mind im still NA so it might be different for your turbo setup.

after getting my thermostat housing gaskets fixed and with the autometer temp guage it hasnt gone over 192F-ish on a long uphill (3rd gear high revs) 4km.. up the toowoomba ranges after 60km of highway.. and this was consistent with similar driving up to the sunshine coast the following day.. long slow hills at 110 with my foot flat to the floor.. im hoping this is well within the normal limits of an NA 3b.. from 180F(82c)-192F(88c)

but for your turbo i reckon a pyro would be able to tell you how hot your running better than your water temp alone.. has your fuel fiddled with or tuned?

i attempted to replace the std 3b waterpump with an non toyota variant and found it didnt fit. one corner of the housing was cast differently and it wouldnt go in.. i tried filing a bit off but no luck..

i also had the radiator flushed too.. which apparently was only 3% blocked.. there was a minor leak up on the top left side, look for bits near welds where corrosion is starting to form.

i read that you'll known when your water pump is cactus when its rough to spin.. if its smooth its all good.. undo the fan and belt and see how it feels maybe?

should keep you busy for a while? what year is yours? I'm finding im also having to start replacing major components.. ive got 345000kms on the clock now and have only really replaced alternator, primer pump and thats about it i think.

anyway.. hope some of this has helped out.

ip.

you should look for exhaust leaks pre turbo, I had this simular problem and it was due to a bad gasket pre turbo. It had nothing to due with the cooling system, egt's climbed very quickly on hills and h20 followed very shortly later.

how much km or milles per galon .. is just to know if you have more diesel that you can burn, coz in diesel world could be a cause of your heating troubles ..

maybe your pump are still injecting more diesel than your engine can burn ..
