hey boys, not sure on the ratios yet. it's possible they may be stamped on the housings? i'll check that. is the ratio a aspect ratio? still not sure what's being measure here. i have a compressor map for this turbo from the fsm, but could not match it to anything we have discussed here on mud. it's from a 2.2L engine, so i know it's close. i was hopin someone may have tried it, maybe i'll be the guinea pig......

sorry i'm not much help, i'll have to look up that damn thread i thought i saw on ratios.
will that turbo spool low enough to work on the 3b? i think i remember something about ct26 turbos not being the best option because they spool up too high RMP range to work well on the 3b. might be the same with the legacy one??? maybe someone will post up a link to something helpful. crusty (at my own computer..lol) __________________ Just another VICruiser '91 HDJ 80 '83 HJ47

i think i read that gas turbos between 2- 3 litres were a good size for the 3b, i believe the merkur turbo used is off a 2.3 litre engine and i think the volvos are somewhere in that ballpark as well. the rpm ranges for these gas engined turbos should all be fairly close. give er a go.

Yeah I think you're in the right ballpark. I've seen ratios of .42/.48 quoted as pretty much ideal. Can't helpyou on the Suby ratios sorry.

the AXT turbo is .42/.48...at least the one I saw a few years ago was...the volvo turbos are mostly that ratio. The one I just rebuilt last night was that ratio and it was off a B230ft which is the 740 turbo intercooler engine.
The 2.3 Fords is a .48/.60 setup you would get a little more umph but not that noticeable but more importantly maybe a fewer EGT's but more lag. I had both these factory turbo cars , Merkur XR4Ti and 740 turbo and the XR4Ti had much more lag than the Volvo but had more power. The turbo I rebuilt will be going on my 3b. Yah there is also a Merkur AUTO tranny turbo, .48/.50 ar. Spools quicker.
More important than AR's when looking for turbos is orientation of the outlets, inlets etc. Some are really strange shapes. Not all CT26 turbos are the same. There are variations. The 13b-t is a ct26 too. The supra version will not work __________________ -84 BJ60, Finally on the FN road! -91 FJ80, wife's ride Iron Butt award winner of the Cruise Moab 08 ! |

subaru turbos
thanks all for the replies. my researching on mud turned up the .42/.48 sizing as well. i believe the garrett on 2.2L chryslers is this size, this should get me really close with the subaru legacy 2.2L turbo. i'm going to mount it to a 13bt manifold with a fabbbed adapter section.
hey brownbear- you raised the point of plumbing and pipe inlet/outlet angles-this legacy is a liquid and oil fed turbo and these lines are approximately in the right direction. the inlet is on the bottom like a 13bt but the outlet points slightly upward angle towards the intake. i don't think this would be hard to direct but i also think i might be able to clock the housing. there are 6 bolts in a clock pattern around the housing-why not loosen and turn housing one notch over then the outlet is pointing right at the intake. my concern would be not reinstalling correctly or press fit issue. not sure here as i have never disassembled a turbo. anyone else out there know if they can be "clocked"? chris __________________ yo what it is |
