Thanks!

I've also found out that the torque converter doesn't lock up in 3rd gear, so there is a lot of slippage when pulling a load at higher RPMs which can cause the tranny to overheat.

Downshifting may reduce EGTs but will increase ATF temps.

I believe that once the load is on the move you shouldn't have much effort to keep it going but, if you plan to haul for an extended period of time, be sure to let that tranny work where it works best that is if you're going uphill downshift to 2n and go so the engine has enough power but it doesn't mean that you should go fast of course this applies for long and steep hills for a short one you shouldn't have any trouble leaving the trans as is. For the record I've never seen those AT/temp lights go on in any land cruiser i saw it once in a Montero but thats another story. Besides is your tranny working properly have you given it proper care?

This would be a really good way to burn your tranny. Out of O/D the A442 runs hot, because the Torque converter is so inefficient. If you can get enough power in OD without exceeding max EGT's, leave the OD on. Better yet, get a tranny temp gauge so you can keep an eye on what's going on. By the time the ATF light comes on, you may be doing damage = $$$$. Just ask wussypup what sort of $ we're talking about.

How you do turn off the full-time 4wd? Is there a switch or fuse or something to turn off? I don't have the manuals - I also don't see some obvious switch on the dashboard that says "4WD off" or something on theI have a 1990 HDJ81 VX Limited.

There are kits out there to do this, a set of manual hubs and some parts to replace the center diff in the Tcase. The center diff button becomes the front drive button.

Haven't people who did this said it made no difference in terms of fuel consumption? I suppose it might reduce some wear on the front end.

I'm amazed that anyone would want to run an 80 series up to 180 kph. I didn't even know they could go that fast.

I'm alwais in love with a sport fast car .. and speed, but If you drive 200 km/h one car that is designed for speed, and go up and drive a Cruiser more dan 140 km/h you can feel the diference ..

I'm happy driving my Cruiser at 120km/h no more .. this is great speed for a 4x4 2 ton rigs ..

I would LOVE to hear about what you did to your engine to make it able to do that speed for 1.5 hours straight without damage, on what tires, whether you have a bull bar or roof rack and what the fuel consumption was, what kind of oil you were using, anything!

Pretty Please

i've driven 1hz powered buses, they sit on 3000rpm at 100kph thanks to shitty gearing. at 110 it's about 3150 rpm. I've sat on that for hours on end, and the bus weighs abotu 3.5 tonne.

a 1hdt should do it easy. don't underestimate a toyota diesel's ability to rev.

also i've heard of someone running two 1hdt's in a boat, at 3500rpm (where max power is)

Wow! At that speed, how much fuel does the truck consume? Any idea? Are aftermarket fuel meters available for this vehicle?

Thanks for your input!

Chris
