EXACTLY the same cover, it doesn't matter if it was gas or diesel, H41 or H42, but as I mentioned before, if this is bolting to something requiring a single piece transfer case output shaft your H42 is NOT correct if it comes from a split case transfer. You will have a 19 spline output shaft as all split cases do, you will need a 16 spline output shaft as all single piece transfer cases that were mated to 4 speed trannys had.
My FJ55 has a tranny case from a split case H42 with the gears from a single piece transfer H41 with a 3 speed transfer case mounted behind it and it's all behind a 3B diesel engine! It CAN be done. __________________ '82 BJ60 H55 tranny, AXT turbo 3B diesel, high nickel alloy head, A/C, BDS lift, factory PTO, Aussie rear locker, OEM LSD front, 4:11's, 32's, PERFECT frame! Read the first line of my last post again carefully!! ANY 4 speed non-split case tranny has the SAME cover.
