Lightbulb MSV/Coney Flats 7/14

Ok, I'll try this again with a little more notice. Anyone want to run Middle St. Vrain/Coney Flats with me next weekend? It is a fun trail down by Peaceful Valley that runs up Middle St. Vrain river and then switches back up to Coney Flats, a ~2ft deep water crossing, then back down to Beaver Reservoir and back out to 72.

We can meet in along 287 in Loveland somewhere at like 8-9 am and head up towards Lyons. Any other suggestions on the time, etc. are welcome.
Let's get some members together an do a mid-month trail run!!

Peaceful Valley/Camp Dick Campsites:
40* 07.868'/105* 30.198'
Elevation - 8542ft

Never said I can't go wheeling. I actually plan on going 2 August 2008. It is the first Saturday of the month. I'm thinking about Crystal. Anyone else interested.

I'll head up there with ya! I'll want to meet you someplace closer to Lyons, though.

It better be good for a DD, since that's all I've got!

...my DD might be better equipped than most, but it's still a DD...

Yeah, you will be fine. It is also rated a less difficulty than Kelley Flats.Three obstacles tops. The water is cool too. My 98 Tacoma did fine with open diffs several times. Maybe a couple of "Brushes" with needles.

Sam/Codie are you two in? If so call me tonight (before 10pm) or tomorrow morning.(7am is ok). Lyons is about 40-50 minutes away for me in the south end of Fort Collins and the TH is another 30 or so minutes from Lyons. Alex, we could meet you at downtown Lyons if that would be better 4u. Lyons is the best place for me to top my gas tank off.

Looks like it's going to be a 40-fest of epic proportions, then. Or twice as many as Bob's last run, anyway.

See you in the morning, Bob!

Thanks for a great trail run, FJ40zen!

We did in fact have some carnage on this run. Aside from the trail having installed a slow leak in my right front tire, I had a small issue with the left front spring pack. See if you can spot the problem in my pictures.

Yes, that's the main leaf, and yes, now I think all springs should have a military wrap on both ends!

That leaf broke less than halfway into the trail... she rode fine for the remaining hour or two on the trail, then another two hours on the road going home and dicking around in Boulder. Let us not examine too closely the danger in those operations, eh?

It took me almost six hours tonight, but I got the old (Rancho, not broken) springs reinstalled on the Cruiser. With the OME shackles up front, she's riding just about level (in other words, WAY HIGHER up front now!), and I don't think she's leaning anymore! My words of wisdom for the night: when you're replacing a leaf pack, unbolt or at least loosen the U-bolts on the other side; it makes it a whole lot easier to move the axle around and get the center pin to go into the spring perch.

the other pictures...

And here's the other three pictures. I thought about cropping out Bob's nose, but decided against it.

The springs are of unknown manufacture, but Steve at EBI in Vancouver thought they were probably Belton.

I might see what Denver Spring can make up for me. A couple of mechanic friends have very good things to say about them. They've gotta cost less than OME.

Come on Bob, you gotta post up the shots of my truck on the trail. Heather wants to do that trail again sometime soon also.

And Mike, when were you on the trail last?
