$57 for a 54 mm socket?!?

I called to try and find a 54 mm socket and got quoted $57?!?

This was for a 2 1/8, they did not have a 54.

Wow! Over $1 per mm!

Does anyone have a 54 I can borrow for my knuckle service?

Or, does anyone know where to get one for about half that price?

I can't remeber the size, but I might have picked up a big socket like that for something in my rear axle from John at Coyote Cruiser.

It wasn't that expensive.

I'll check the size tonight.

Did you try Sears? 2 1/8" easy-read socket there is $32.99 -- part #50797. $27.99 for the uglier part #47789.

I just checked and the hub socket that I have doesn't have a size on it. I'm pretty sure I picked it up from Coyote and used it on my FF rebuild.

Sweet! Thanks man. I did check with John and he said he has a sweet price but is out of them right now.

You coming up to the Fort anytime soon? Actually, why don't you just come up and rebuild my knuckles while you are dropping off the socket!

Funny thing is Harbor Freight only sells socekts in sets. Biggest one was 50 mm.

Toyota does stock them. 1/2 inch drive vs. 3/4 which is nice!

I still say Sears (though mine is a 3/4" drive) is the easiest, and decently priced. Bought mine off the shelf at the Ft Collins Sears store, I bet. I know I owned it when I lived in Loveland, so it makes sense I bought it up there...

TJS,

I was just at John's yesterday and I thought I saw three of them sitting on a shelf next to the northway near the suspension stuff.

Speaking of John, when's he going to fix his website? It's been broken for about a month now.

Phew. That's good. He seemed like a nice guy in the very brief interactions I had with him quite a while back!
