Emissions question

I heard that El Paso is getting rid of emissions testing in '07. Can anyone confirm this? If this is true and I move out there in June would I get a grace period? I'm damn sure that my wagon wouldn't pass.

That is the rumor. I heard that a number of years ago also. we are all hoping that it goes through though. I am sure they will come out with something else so the businesses that offer this will be able to charge us for something else though.
As far as a grace period. I believe you have 90 days from the time you get a residence here to change over your plates and liscense. hope this helps.
If your vehicle is over 20 years you can get collectors tags and only have to register it once every 5 years and only have to pass emissions for the first time you transfer plates.
There are always ways of passing emissions. You just have to know the right people. Get ahold of one of us when you get out here and I am sure someone will be able to steer you in the right direction.

From what I gather though, is that if you live in Teller and commute to El Paso you still have to meet the reqirements. If they would ever know is another question.

I'm also hoping to find a commuter vehicle as well. So that may answer that question.

Thanks for the help guys.

According to the Gazette, it'll be over in December of 07. I hear they might be going to safety checks (blinkers, seat belts, etc...) though to keep us paying for something...

It's actually only 30 days after you become a resident of the state.

Years ago, Minnesota used to have emissions testing. You had 1 year before you had to pass emissions though, so that was the basis of my question.
