Liberty on Sunday Nov 8th.
I was going to work at my father-in-laws place on Sunday but he plans have changed so that plan has been put on hold. Now what should I do on a Sunday that is supposed to be nice weather? How about making a run to Penrose to run Liberty? Anyone want to join me?

I'm still pretty upset about my mangled passenger side slider and rocker panel, think I'll stay away from liberty for a while.

Youtubed some videos of Liberty Pass....don't think my FJ40 is up to par yet on that one....besides this weekend is the Power Steering project, got just about everything I need, all that is missing is the return line, bolts, and saginaw pump cap, oh and the belt should be able to find that stuff locally easily. So, good luck and don't drive into mud puddles...you might not get out!

Roy, I lost my saginaw pump cap last year, they sell them at Autozone.

//THIS IS NOT A HIGH-JACK// I called NAPA, they have them also, so stopped by on the way home and got the cap, return line and fluid. Bolts are whats left...I will mock everything up and drill the holes on the mounting bracket, then get the bolts and figure out the belt size. Should be able to get half of it done tonight (remove the fender, remove the original steering box and bracket, clean the chasi and paint the area) then do the rest tomorrow morning... U gota love ing! Maybe next I can score an H55 , that would be sweet!!!! //I REPEAT THIS IS NOT A HIGH-JACK//

That will work, I either have to steal the driveshaft off of our 96 to put on the 93, or get the trailer ready to go for the 40. The last time I came back from Penrose, the trailer self-destructed!

Liberty Pass and Liberty that is part of the Independence trail system are two very different trails. Liberty is the easier of the 2, but is by no means easy!
You don't have to worry about mud puddles around there, they close the gate when it is wet.

Trail report
Don brought one of his FJ40's, I had my FJ60 and we had to leave Mike's Bronco at Checkers on 26th street because it was misbehaving. Mike and I were late getting to the parking area due to working on the Bronco's brakes before giving up and leaving it behind. We thought that we had at least a dozen rigs ahead of us so we were expecting some traffic problems on he trail but it turns out we cruised past the group before the trail started and made it through to the intersection of Patriot and Independence where we parked for a while to see if anyone one was coming in on the other trails. A jeep, Samurai and a Toyota pickup came down from Independence and headed up Liberty. We walked up Patriot and then went an looked at bunker hill on Independence. Don said he didn't have a skid plate on his FJ40 so he really didn't want to try to go up bunker hill. I was thinking I was lucky Don was missing his skid plate because otherwise I would probably be missing lots of sheet metal before I managed to get the 60 up bunker hill. I think I will try it some day but not this day.
On our way back up Liberty we ran into oh about a dozen rigs coming down. We caught up to the Jeep, Samurai and the Toyota truck because the jeep broke the track bar mount. Don came to their rescue with his portable welder and we had them back on the trail before the others had started back up behind us.
The only trail damage I had was a small scratch on the passangers door and today I found I was missing a small piece of my passenger side tail light. I seemed to make it through this tail a lot easier on the 37"s than I did on the 36"s.
I only have three pictures from my camera because the memory card was full. Don and Mike should have some additional pictures.

In the one with Chuck and the Jeep, Chuck is trying to tell the guy in the Jeep if he had a Cruiser, he wouldn't need to be working on it.! lol
When we pulled up to him, I asked if he needed anything and in a frustrated voice he said "not unless you have a welder" He seemed to cheer up when I told him I did and pulled off the trail to get started.

My eldest grew up on trails, he used to run all over the place when we would go to Independence looking for lizards.
Noah, (the one pictured) has only started wheeling with me in the last year or two, so he gets a bit nervous sometimes. I told him we were doing "the easy trail" and he had nothing to worry about.
Had a great day and like Chuck said, considering all the vehicles that were on the trail, it went pretty smooth. And we got to try to convert someone from the darkside.
As much as I like driving an 80 the older I get, there is nothing like the 40!

Excuses, excuses!
That time you and I went with Luke, I still didn't have my rockcrawling bearings back, but I think it's coming back to me slowly.

Yea, they had you deployed all the time it seemed. And that trail changes every time it rains..
now that your out it should give you some time to finish up those other trucks, and get more seat time in!
When are you going to put Noah Behind the wheel

The guy in the Red JK is another Minnesota guy. I've met him a couple of times, but we have common friends back in MN.

Did you guys use a winch to get back up the trail? Some of those palces look like you'd have to get winched up...

No winches or tow straps were used on this trail.
You need good body armor or less body to do this trail. We went in, turned around and went back out on Liberty. The alternate routes out, Patriot and Independence, are significantly harder.
