Christmas Tree Cutting 09
Well, I was thinking ahead today when I scored a set of tire chains for $40. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. I don't think I will need tire chains to get around by myself but to pull out cars and trucks I may need some extra traction. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

There is nothing so sweet as the feeling of the vibration of a fully chained up truck driving along Rampart Range Road. There you are, working at putting those chains on with the slush from the wheel wells dripping on your face, the taste of old road salt on your lips. The heat from the muffler frying through your gloves. The pinch of the cold steel on your bare fingers after you decide to ditch the gloves. Then there is the drive to the first patch of snow that has you wondering how many parts are vibrating off your truck as you drive on the bare bare road with out a trace of snow in sight. It is all worthit as you go farther into the woods and find the deep snow at the bottom of 214 and float through a foot of powder kicking up a cloud of ice crystals.

I'm pretty darn excited about the snow as well, I seem to be the only one I know that loves winter and all the deep snow. Chains do make all the difference, and the confidence that goes with having chains and a winch is great.....no fear!!!
I am for sure going with the new goodyears kevlars as my next tires.........haven't seen a bad review of them yet, but I want to go with 37's and that means either making my chains bigger, or buying new ones.
Damn, I need find some seeds and plant one of those "money trees" in my yard......

I need to get my time off requests in for this. I'm pretty sure I can only get one Saturday off max, and maybe a Sunday too if i'm lucky. Just to double check the dates: it's 12-5,6 and 12-12,13 correct? I currently don't have a winch or chains but i'm willing to jump in anywhere and help out.
thanks
Ryan

Ryan, plenty of people have made the trips without chains, we might just have to pull you out a couple times. It makes for good practice!

Ryan,
No problem being on patrol without chains. Christmas tress cutting is a good time so I would recommend making it for at least one day if you can.

Well, after a couple of years of not being around, I'll have time to help out with yanking people out of snow. I'll have to check with the girlfriend on when she wants to go.
There's already a bunch of snow up on Rampart, enough to make problems for people. We were up there this weekend. I had to winch my way past a tree on FR320C (off Mt. Herman Rd.) and pull an F550 with utility box filled with wood out of a drainage rut on Rampart Range Rd. Actually, I had to winch him across the road.
There's also a Ford truck off the side of Mt Herman Rd. It looks like he was backing up and drove it off the road. It's was there before the last storm ('cuz there's a bunch of snow on it). It's only about 5 feet down but it's going to be touch to get it out.
