Annual Christmas Cutting
This year the annual forest service Christmas tree cutting weekends will be on the days of December 6 & 7 and 13 & 14. We are looking for a minimum of 6 volunteers per day.
This is where the club members show up and help the forest service have a safe environment for the people that want to cut Christmas Trees.
We show up at the Western gas station in woodland park and then head out to Rampart Range road. We meet up with the forest rangers and they tell us the areas that we patrol for the day. If there is lots of snow or ice, people that are there to cut trees get stuck and we pull them out and help them get back to the road. It is a good time to see the mountains and to help out those that have issues off of the blacktop. I use it to re connect with friends and my kids use it as a good way to scout out the perfect Christmas Tree.
Please reply to this thread to inform the club about the days you would like to volunteer.
Thanks
David M

I will plan for Dec 6th and Dec 13th all day and possibly the afternoons on the Dec 7th and Dec 14th. This assumes that the Landcruiser is back to one piece by then. Right now its taking up a lot more floor space than is should.
Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow.........

edit - OK, need to make it the 7th on the first weekend. Still flexible on the 2nd weekend - planning on the 13th.
Probably only half day or so on the 1st weekend.
Hope we get some snow to make it interesting!

After being able to go last year for the first time in MANY years, is sucks to not be able to go this year.
You might say I don't have to worry about pulling people out of the snow over here though.
I hope everyone has fun, hope the snow is good (no fun if there is no snow!), and may everyone stay safe.
Actually it wasn't last year, was it?
I guess it was in 06?
As I headed back over to this paradise on 1 Dec 07.

We meet at the Western gas station at 8:00 and leave by 8:15 to drive up to Rampart Range road to meet the forest service. We are usually finished up sometime between 3 pm and sun down, but we have also been there much later if needed.

I'd be happy to help this year but the wife and I made a decision recently that means we're no longer in a Toyota. We looked at a lot of vehicles but I must say that yes, we did go to the dark side and get a Jeep. Technically this means I can no longer be the VP but I still would like to be a part of the group if possible.

Hmm.. i think we can still let you be part of the group, After we ridicule you about your horrible decision
I dont think anywhere it states that Associate members (non toyota guys) can not hold office.. but i don't think our group holds the bylaws up to every single item!

I must admit, my wife drives a lifted cherokee -- and I do love to take it wheeling, but come on man, can't you buy a beater toyota or something?? I would hate to see you have to go to a jeep [my wallet is bigger than your wallet] club! most of those guys have ego's the size of a 54 inch bogger! ugh..... we still like you though......

This upcoming weekend is the first of our two weekends Volunteering with the Forest service. Below are the people that I've heard are planning to attend. With the snow from last Sunday and potentially more tomorrow, we might have a little more to do this year. Below are the people that I've heard from so far:
Saturday 6th
Chuck
Luke
David Hayes
Sam
Justin
John
Sunday 7th
David
Mark
Eric
Trevor
Justin
Ken
Scott
Saturday 13th
Chuck

Luke
Trevor
Justin
Vic
Sunday 14th
David Hayes
Sam
Ken
Andy
Scott
Usually, the first Saturday has the most people up there cutting trees. The Christmas tree cutting event will be on the first two weekends in December (6th & 7th and 13th and 14th). We meet at the Western gas station at 8:00 and leave by 8:15 to drive up to Rampart Range road to meet the forest service. It is a large area to cover up there so we can always use more help.

regretfully, I had to give in and work saturdays, both the 6th and the 13th. hate to change plans, but for now, it's easier than finding a new job. I will definitely be on both sunday runs though.

I'm not going to make it this morning guys - sick kid here. If she's feeling better later, we may go up just to get our tree, but I'm going to let her sleep for now.

Trip report for Sunday: It was Mark, Ken, Scott, and myself for the first part of the day, with Chuck joining in at around noon. As soon as we arrived, There was a report of a two wheel drive small truck left over night somewhere around FS road 323. we went to check it out first thing, but the owner had not made it up from Colorado Springs yet. We went to check out some signs on FS roads 300U and 300V. During that time, the Forest Service helped us find and meet up with the owner of the truck and we pulled the vehicle up the trail. The rest of the day had us scouting down FS roads 327 and 351. There was much traffic on 351. After that the day was coming to an end, and we decided to turn in our radios to Rick with the Forest Service. While saying goodbye, a couple was brought up to the group--They had lost their vehicle and had been hiking through the woods for quite some time, the man was in a tee shirt and (from what the forest service said) possibly showing signs of mild hypothermia. We talked about how to help them, and lucky for them, the family who picked them up had marked their GPS position. I drove them until we found their Ford Expedition--within 15 minutes of where they were found. I dropped them off and another call came in about two women who were 2 miles out of the cutting area, and stuck in a Toyota car. They were down FS road 315 and had to walk for over an hour to get help. The trail they were down was VERY steep and completely snow covered. With Chip from the Forest Service driving, the vehicle was pulled almost the whole way up the trail to safety, and they decided to let it slide that the women had a tree from out of the cutting area, lol. good fun had by all, can't wait for next weekend!!! Luke.
