Your experience will count...

I have been a Toyota fan for a while, have owned a few, mostly Camry & Trucks. Looking at a '83 Cruiser. All stock with 122k miles. Only problem I see is a rip in the seat and minimal rust behind rear tires on fender well.
Is there anything I should watch out for? 3.0 V6/ 4x4 / 4 door. Is it the FJ60? 62? Like I said, I'm a virgin at Criusers. Any info that can be provided would be great! Seller says it has always been in Colorado. Has orig. window sticker for $13,350.00.

Hmm.. need more info.. Cruisers never came with V6's.. a 3.0 v6 4 door would be a 90-95 4runner.. thats all i can think of.. And No 3.0 is worth that much!

Where are you at in Colorado? It would have to be a VERY Clean FJ62 to be worth more than 10k.. you can get a Very nice 80 at that price!

Is this Jack Rice's old rig outta oregon? Once of the nicest 60's out there.

Yoter....

We really need more information. A 1983 Landcruiser 4 door will be an FJ-60.

Inline 6 cylinder. 4.2 Liter. 4 speed manual transmission.

1983 probably will not have air conditioning, but might.

Rust is the big killer. The rear wheel arches are typical. There are companies that make new weld in panels for these. Also check the frame out real careful. If you don't know what to look for, take it to someone who does. In good running shape 60s are easy to take care of. If it is a head case you will be banging your head against the wall for months, or spending lots and lots of $$$$$'s to fix it.

As I read it, $13K was the price on the original sticker - not what they are asking now.

Asking price is $5700.00 Drove it today. Feels tight, no shakes, rattles or rolls. Inline 6, 122k miles, appears to be completely stock down to the radio. 4x4 high and low worked perfectly in some snow/mud. Equal turn radius L/R in 4H&4L. Some research I have done some searching, suggested price between $2600-$6500. I am thinking of paying $4000-$4400.
I was mistaken on the motor type. It is an inline 6. Does have A/C
Also...are this year/type Cruiser dogs in 1st gear?

I've always considered mine a dog in every gear

What kind of shape was the body in? Rust never sleeps.

Other parts of the body looked clean. believe it was garage kept. Minor parking lot dings on doors. No paint missing from those. Can see tiny (pea size) touch up paint marks on tailgate.

It does have all original everything. Carpet in back, original seat covering, cloth on doors matches cloth on seats. Radio is orig with the volume on the right side, AM/FM. From what I saw it is only missing 2 things. The gear shift map on the handle, and the clear cover in the choke lever. I did notice it had the original shocks and steering stabilizer, probably the first things to be replaced. Weld in panels on rear wheel arches to follow shortly after.

I found another one though...a 1984 Cruiser with 250k miles on body, chassis. 100k on Chevy 350 motor, 33" BFGs. Orig drive train, transfer case. $4800obo. Seller says no body issues, will have to see. Either way I think I will be buying one.

I will see it this weekend.
Having thoughts about a fj40. Was able to dig up a '73 stock with 120k miles. Pumpkin color, winch.
Story is it was a Marshalls vehicle in the Evergreen area. Bought new at Ft.Collins Foreign Imports. Sold to a doctor for his cabin.................Needs seats recovered. Only rust is on back door. Sat for last 8-10 years.
$4000.00 obo. Same seller as the '78 w/68k orig miles, that one is sold. just missed it.
I am looking for something that I can use as a daily driver, but can enjoy wheeling in.
Any thoughts??
All your info is appreciated!!
Hope you guys enjoyed your XMAS party last night.

Christmas party was good! Thanks!

Where are you located in Colorado?

A 60 whole different thing from a 40!

40's you can take the top off, they turn on a dime, Turn heads wherever you go, are true "Classic's", They ride like Crap, are not very comfy to drive everyday, but i Love mine!

60's are more comfy, better for hauling camping stuff and family's in, have a longer wheelbase, ect.. a bit easier to find parts for! Not quite the classic that a 40 is, but still a great truck!

4K seems a bit high for a truck that has sat for 10 years.. i picked my 40 up for $1500 and it sat for 10 years.. but mine has some body damage and some rust.. Keep looking, you will find a nice truck!

Spend some time on the 60/40 section on mud and learn all about them before you make a choise! More info than you would ever want in there!

I live and work in Monument.

I will probably go for a 60. Something I can take my wife and kids in comfortably.

Better Idea!!! I'll buy both types!!! 60 for daily driving, 40 for fun!!

I work in Monument off of Mitchell and Synthes.

For the families sake a 60 would probably be nicer. 40's are awesome but it's hard to get them to hold much.

Yoter, good luck in the search, maybe we will meet you at the next meeting in January? if you have a truck or not you should stop in and introduce yourself, kick tires on some of the other 60's in the club!
