I just rebuilt the birfs on my 80 a few months ago - don't recall needing any SST other then the big socket for the axle nut thingy.
Sounds like a bad axle seal? Do you mean a seal driver? I think you should be able to find that at any auto parts store. I borrowed the one I used. |

with a rebuild, you usualy put in the same amount of shims that came out.. Thats easy.
with mine, i put new knuckles on it, with hysteer arms, that could have different thicknesses cousing the location of the inner axle to be off center.. this couses premature failure of the inner seal.. atleast i think.. Maybe they went bad with the old knuckles, but i didint notice it till now.. the sst measures the distance to ensure that everthing is centerd. but i may be able to get it close by using a micrometer and some luck.. __________________ 1976 FJ40 TBI350 700R4 D300 SOA Locked 37" PBR's Protected by REDLINEColorado Land Cruisers - Club Redline Land Cruisers - PM me for info on our products or to order! Ok, I get it. I saw the bit about the different knuckles and arms, but it just didn't register what that meant wrt the axle seals.
