Meeting place discussion

We breifely spoke about this at the last meeting. Moving the meeting spot to somewhere where we could get some food and or adult beverages while we meet.

My other club (www.mntoyx4.com) always met at a VFW or such. Maybe we were lucky but they always gave us a private meeting room. We could order food and beer while we met.

How does the current meeting spot work out? From what I hear Liberty Toyota doesn't do a whole lot for the club. So why meet there at all?

My feeling is that the meetings should be much more of a social event kind of thing. Get all of the busniess out of the way, then just hang out and talk with your friends, then go look at trucks.

Thoughts?

How many of the club members actually check this website?

One other thing we briefly spoke about was setting up an email list so those who don't check the website can still be informed. Jeff (nenasha) said that he would have the ability to set up an email list through his server if that is a direction we wanted to go.

1 final thing...

My experience shows that some individuals do not check the web forums because they want the information to come to them, they do not want to spend the time to go look for it. Members of this forum should have the ability to subscribe to the Forum. What this means is that anytime a new post is made (possibly replys as well) and email is sent to anyone who is subscribed. Just another option.

About my only thought would be to get the meeting location to someplace easier to get to. North Academy isn't exactly the easiest area to get to if you're not in the northeast area. Oh yeah, I'm not wild about the idea of adult beverages while the meeting is going on. Personally, I don't like being around people drinking.

Main reason that I'm invovled with clubs at all.

Very few, and only those that like to live on the net. Currently, I'm only checking it from places other than home. Why? Because my home connection is very slow for doing things on the web.

I can easily set up a mail list on my server (I think it takes about 10 minutes or less). However, I would suggest using either Google's or Yahoo's groups. Why? Because of exposure for the club. When I'm traveling around, I'll do a search on those sites to see about locating a club or two. I found a couple of clubs in California that way. Oh yeah, setting up a group on Google and Yahoo takes less than 10 minutes and is free.

One of my pet peeves with clubs that insist on using web-based (meaning browsers) communication tools. I find them (forums like this) very slow and inefficient. Especially, when people insist on imbedding large pictures into their messages.

From a very quick check on this site, you can only subscribe to threads and not forums. Which isn't very helpful when new threads (such as this one) are created.

Maybe I came off wrong here. My intent isn't to find a place to meet where I can get drunk, just some place that has food, and where I can get a beer if I want.

Maybe I'm overstepping my bounds here to begin with, being new and all. We just talked about it at the meeting and I haven't seen any discussion yet.

Nope, you didn't. That's what I thought you meant.

Chances are there won't be much dicussion here. (There aren't many people visiting the forum.) I imagine that we'll need to continue to bring this stuff up at the meetings for a while before anything gets decided. It seems that most people in the club are too busy to get on a forum like this and spend anytime discussing things. (Yet, another reason that email lists may be a better form of communication.) Sometimes with a smaller club you just have to be patient (and sometimes it is very frustrating).

And I wouldn't worry about overstepping anything. New people in a club usually bring much needed new ideas and ways of doing things. And as I remember we should be having a club officer election (for a couple of positions anyway) coming up soon. Interested?

For purely selfish reasons, I prefer a more northern meeting place

Other than that, I concur that fighting Academy during rush hour is no fun, and the dealership is rather "dry".

I'd be happy for a different venue... a little less-enthused if it ended up being in Fountain.

And, No, I don't have time or energy for occifer-dom.

firstly i Agree that the Current location is a bit hard to get to.. Comming from the highway, Its a pain to either to all the way to woodman, or take austin bluffs to Union, to Acadamy..
(For Me atleast)

Id Love to have a place that we could have a bite to eat, and possibly a beer.. Also, As relaxed as our club is, i think its a great move.. (I love the Relaxed laid back attitude BTW)

I think we could find a place that wouldint mind us being their, especialy since Tuesday is a slow night for most places.. It would be cool to have it off a major exit on the highway.. and maybe have an outdoor eating area for the summer time.. Dose anyone have any Suggestions?? Ill do some looking around..

As for People active in reading the forums, I think that some just dont realize how easy it is to use, and how much information sharing and planning can happen within the forums.. Yes you can subscibe to a thread and have e-mails sent out when an update has occurred.. But id love to see this section so active that every day people are posting..

I have offerd to do a writeup in the next newsletter, (althouth i think im too late for this months issue).. anyone wanting to help out PM me.. This may help people get involved in the forum..
