Several people have expressed interest in this run.Who's Leading It? what are your plans? Please post up or email me so I can get the word out! Thanks!

Hi Jonathan,
I'd like to go, providing I'm not plowing that weekend. Seeing as how I didn't make the cut for CM2012 this trip would go a long way to ease the pain. :) Peace, Glenn

I would definitely be interested in attending, never done the trip though so I couldn't help much with leading.

I'm also interested.

I still need to pay up and sign the member forms.

It's in our plans to go also, I was under the impression that Bill aka "el presedente" was leading maybe he can't make it? I have limited knowledge of the area, haven't been there since last CM so memory here at the keyboard is a little fuzzy but I do have a map of the swell!

Suggestion: go to Expedition Utah and post your tentative plans and possibly one of the Wasatch Cruisers may step up to lead or at least offer suggestions on good trails. They may be out prerunning for CM12 at the same time. If your real lucky Kurt Williams will be there

Great suggestion Ace. Wasatch preran the CM route last week. I did contact bill and he is looking into things and will contact you shortly. I'm also working on some gps tracks based on the last couple of overnights. The trails illustrated map is an excellent resource.

HA! We are "borrowing" some of your ideas. At the same time, I hope it will be a unique trip, It would be great to have someone who really knows the area there. Heck, It might be enough to make me change my plans...

Swell Run

Greetings all, I am not dead, I was just visiting Jimmy Hoffa. Sorry I have not been more involved lately, I am trying to close on a house, sell a house, rent a house, well you all get the idea.

I apologize but I am unable to commit to leading the run at this time due to my schedule.

Now this should not mean the run is not going to happen. There are plenty from the club that have ran that area under the Wasatch pirate flag. If nothing else it would be a great chance to go "exploring" ie; get lost in the area, and find some new and exciting runs.

I wish I could be more help at this point and again I apologize for not being able to fulfill my initial goal of leading this run :bang:

I am in for the "Swell" trip also, I wouldn't mind leading ie "getting lost - Exploring" for the weekend :steer:. Jonathan is uploading tracks to my GPS for our trip. I will be driving to Moab early Friday morning to find the campground and to do some exploring. Would like to get a list of people that are in for sure and what kind of rig you are bringing, group breakfast, how many miles people like to travel in a day, what kind of wheeling, stocker friendly or mild with bypasses? We just got back from Moab this weekend after doing the CM2012 trail leader pre run, what an awesome weekend with outstanding wheeling. Also spent Sunday with Jonathan just driving 122 miles of back country roads and trails. We found some really cool places. My kind of wheeling "back country exploration" !!

Thanks for posting Bill, and thanks Matt for offering to lead things. It should turn out to be a great trip.

Hey Matt! Thanks for volunteering to lead.

I am in for sure. It might just be Mary and I or my buddy James who was on the dirtbike last weekend may bring his FJ too. He's 100% stock 07 TRD Edition and I'm stock other than a couple skids and 33's. We both have rock rails and rear lockers. I don't usually eat much in the morning but I am happy to pitch in for a group breakfast. If its just me out wheeling I like to cover a lot of miles, with a group and passengers the pace of the previous trips with lots of stops to check out the scenery and stretch is nice.

You said you are taking off Friday morning for Moab, are you starting the swell run on Friday or just getting a head start on the scouting and starting Saturday morning? I can probably do either I just need to give the notice at work if I am leaving Friday.

Bill no worries about not be able to lead, sounds like you have your hands full with real estate stuff been there done that. Hopefully you can still make it if you can get things worked out.

I'am willing to help us all get lost, sounds like fun to me! I do have the Trails Illustrated map and a map I think I got from CM last year from the BLM, between the 2 should be able to figure things out. Actually I think you would have to work real hard to get seriously lost in the swell.

Stock FJ should be fine at the swell Ryan, I don't remember anything real hard that we did last year. Just some great exploring and cool things to look at.

I have to work Friday would not be able to leave until after 4pm at the earliest, could possibly be there before dark or might just get up early saturday morning.

Doug

Again I suggest logging in to Expedition Utah and do some research on the swell. Unlike some other websites this one is not clogged up with a lot of hoopla. It's a great resource too cause it is Utah only.

If one of you have the Massey/Wilson book Backroads of Utah it covers the Swell really swell but not some of the harder stuff we have done at the CM overniter.

Sounds good guys! Saturday & Sunday for the run. I am going down early and if anyone wants to join in on Friday that would be cool. Will be in Green River around 11am on Friday running channel 4 on the CB. Thinking that we could sit around the fire Friday night and figure out where the group would like to explore the next day. Do we want to have a base camp and do day trips or do we want to move camp to a new spot for Saturday night? I think with our maps and GPS we will be fine, I like just going out with a general idea for the day and see where the trail take me.

Where should we meet on Friday night or Saturday morning? Anyone have a favorite campsite in the Swell? Jumping online to do some research now.

I'm in for sure. The wife and I can leave Glenwood at 3:30 on Friday, so we'll have to catch up. Or, camp at Rabbit Valley on Friday and then meet up on Saturday morning. I still need to pay dues for the club. I don't have a printer, if someone can bring the paperwork I need to sign, I'll bring the money.

Green River Coffee Co

Does anyone want to meet at the coffee shop in Green River on Saturday morning to fuel up, grab a coffee and hit the road? :steer: I would bring an extra fuel can with you for this trip or share with someone. I will be bringing a 4gal RotoPax with me, possibly 2 (Hugh)? There are campgrounds (Goblin Valley I believe) with toilets and showers in the Swell we could end our day here for Saturday night and do a group dinner instead of breakfast. I am leaning towards a dinner, great time to relax and B.S. I will look into group campsite and reserve one if everyone likes the idea.

Goblin Vally is Full !! :crybaby: Looking for alt.

Goblin Vally is Full !! :crybaby: Looking for alt.

There is a cool area to camp on BLM land just down the road from Goblin Valley. Requires a bit of light 4x4 to get to but its generally enough to keep the place from filling up and if you can get the spot at the end you are camped in a cool valley at the trailhead for an awesome hike. Check out Crack Canyon, I'll take a peak here on google earth and try to get you some coordinates.
