I am writing this from the dusty Slickrock Campground where I caught up on my laundry today.

I am planning to be camping at Sand Flats Rec Area from the 19th to 29th and will be wheeling and doing the tourist thing with my cousin from Atlanta.

Hope to see you all the 24-25th.

Lets go rip a fender or two!

Ace

UPDATE

Greetings all,

We are getting close to the day. The weather looks like it will be nice:
Oct 24 Saturday More clouds than sun. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 40s. Oct 25 Sunday A few clouds. Highs in the mid 60s and lows in the upper 30s.
The plan is to meet up at Western Slope Toyota on Hwy 6&50 at 0730 hours on Saturday morning ready to go. We will be leaving at 0800 so please insure your fueled up and ready to roll.

If you are unable to make it you can also meet up with us in Moab, just give me a call when you get into town. I am planning on running Kane Creek you can check it out at TrailDamage.com - Kane Creek Canyon

If you like this then great, if you would rather run another trail or area I am open to that. Are resident expert guide John Ferguson is unable to attend this run, so your stuck with me. I have ran some of the trails in the area but not this specific one, so we will all have a first unless someone has been on this before.

Mike it would be great to meet up with you down in Moab. As you can see the run is still not a 100% decision. I want to keep it fairly easy as we have some new members and are looking for a good run that we could do an overnighter (camping) run with.

Kane Creek is a great trail and very scenic!

I'm not sure what you guys are running but we went in a 94 Runner w/ 3" lift and rear locker one time...I usually take the Cruiser but did take my stock runner a few years back...I made it but could use a little more clearance at the end.

Change in our plans..We are leaving here shortly and I didn't want to end up wheeling by myself so we are taking the 4Runner instead through Canyon Lands and Arches...And I'll be back next weekend with the Cruiser….I hope.

We'll catch up soon!

P.S. Metal Masher, White Rim, Behind the Rocks are all great ones that are some what easy...Sure you have run Hell's Revenge?...Great beginner trail...But being so close I bet you have been on these...Happy Trails!

Wink ****** trip report ******

Well we are back from our trip to Moab. What a great time had by all. In total we had four 40's, two 60's, two 80's and an FJ Cruiser (ok well there was a J*#P that joined us on the trip). And what a trip is was, more like a scary action adventure flick.

We all met up at the Golden Arches and headed out around 11:30 AM for Kane Creek. Our group started out with just members from Book Cliff Cruisers but then grew as the other Toyota's in the area gravitated to our Toyota vehicles. We ended up with an additional 80, and additional 40 and the J#@P.

What a great group. Everyone was enjoying the spectacular scenery and perfect weather we had. We had a couple of new members, who made this their first run, hopefully not their last.
Kane Creek was a challenge especially when we got towards the end and encountered two bone stock J#@Ps with sweet bald street tires. After offering to assist them over (only to be told no thanks) and waiting two hours they were able to clear the trail (after stacking 7 tons of rock) and some frustration on our part.
With the trail clear we started moving up and out of the canyon through the difficult steps section. This is when we realized one of the 40’s (modified Tacoma with a 40 body) had no power going to the front axle, no 4X4.
John Ferguson did a great job of winching this 40 over the difficult section. Mind you by this time (after waiting on J#@P boys for 2 ½ hours) it was now dark, very dark in the canyon. It was getting dangerous and had one member take a missed step and went over the side of the cliff. Luckily he dug in his heels and was able to be helped back to the roadway with a tow strap, few more feet and it would have been a long long drop.
Well we finally got everyone out of the canyon and to a camping location at about 9:00 PM. We had a great dinner and shared stories of the day over a fire and a few . By the way Tom your brother told me to tell you for taking him on this trip.

The next morning brought about a beautiful day and a great morning breakfast shared by all. Some of the group returned via Gateway, others stayed for a few more days of fun.
All in all we had a great time, meet great new people and shared in the fun of our Toyota culture.
Pictures below..... or all of them at Moab Oct 2009 - a set on Flickr
See you on the trails!!!
