Copenhagen.... I put the can down.

It's been 2 1/2 days since my last pinch of snuff. I feel like I've been hit over the head with a shovel, but I am staying the course. This is the longest that I have been without tobacco since I went through basic training, 10 years ago this summer. Saturday (day 1) was the worst... I felt like I was going looney toons. Today has sucked so far.... This is the first time venturing out of the house since quitting, so its been a little tougher than yesterday. There are so many things that I am accustomed to dipping during... like driving this morning. I couldn't tell you the last time I drove without a dip... None the less, I've got my Sunflower Seeds, Toothpicks, and Bubble gum to keep the oral fixation occupied. I can't go back now, because that would make this last 60+ hours of misery worth nothing. So I am done... I have had my last dip.

Sorry, I just needed to vent this morning.

Any other quitters out there?

My friend just quit too. He went back home to see some friends in Chicago. One guy had a chunk of his gum removed and three teeth. The doc said if he kept dipping, he'd gladly remove the rest of his lower jaw in a few months. My bud said that was the motivation he was looking for.

That thought has been in the back of my mind for a long time. I've never had anything suspicious develop in my mouth and my dentist has never said anything about it. But the risks of cancer and jaw removal are always there...

But, I figured this was the easiest way to add $2500 a year to my Cruiser budget.

good luck and stay the course.
that is one disgusting habit.
i've heard they put fiberglass in that crap, so it cuts your gums and "helps" with absorbation process.

I quit 1 1/2 years ago and I'll admit it wasn't easy. But, I'm glad I did and after a short time (about a week) the craving for it was gone. Good louck dude and stick with it!

Thanks man, I keep hearing that 1 week is the time frame until I start feeling OK. I go through phases... I'll be fine one minute and then loopy as hell the next. 9 more hours until 3 days... this time tomorrow I will be half way to the 1 week mark.

that's the easy part, it's the 3 to 6 months later........ on a nice day and with a cold beer and you reach for the phantom dip can in your pocket.

The phantom can has gotten me several times... I reach for it and remember, "oh yeah, I quit."

i dipped and smoked. when i started dipping i used skoal wintergreen than went to regular copenhagen. it was 69cents a can. smoked 2 packs and used 2 cans a day. once i got up in morning and put in a dip, i never let it run out all day except to eat. my gum stayed white all the time. it would get so sore i would move dip to other side. i quit both at same time. had a little help. i was in an explosion in 2004 and was in burn center in hospital. i remember after i was taken off the respirator, i could smell the niccotein really strong. by the time i got out of hospital and started to regain my senses the desire for tobbacco was gone. never missed it or had any craving at all. good luck. you will be a much healthier person plus i did not realize how nasty it was. YOU CAN DO IT!

Wow man, I guess you are OK? I imagine with that kind of trauma, a dip or a smoke was the furthest thing from your mind.

doing better. on disability now. 9 people hurt. i had worst burns. one man lost an arm. but man standing next to me died. his name was sammy miller. he held 2 or 3 speed records with jet car racing. went by "slinging sammy". RIP. kind of ironic that a rocket engine was the cause of the accident but it was while working on an oilwell in west texas and not on a race car. things are not the same but ok.

Man.. I don't know what to say. Are you still going through Physical Therapy and what not?

Kind of makes quitting dipping look trivial.

11:59 p.m. Dec 31, 1996 I emptied the last of my can. For some reason in my drunken stupor, I said, I will never have another dip as long as I live. To this day I have not had one. I thought the hardest part was one to three months. Your resolve gets a little weak and you start to say maybe if I just have a chew now and then it will be ok. WRONG Good luck

I left in 1995....

My family build homes there, and I ran off writing building damage estimates for insurance cos....Came here to work a Hurricane, met a girl, got married, and stayed.

Working on getting my own agency now.

I do like the scenery, but when I go back I like W Texas, too. I could do without the humidity....

Hang tough and I hope you as full and as speedy a recovery as possible.....

(You have a lot of Cruisers for W Texas....I can only remember 2 growing up)

Good luck dude. I quit Cope cold turkey about 8 years I was up to a can a day and rarely ever spit. I has to do the patch to wean off it. Cope has about 10 times more nicotine that smokes. Don't give up. Try patches if necessary.

I used Zyban. Worked great for me.

I'm going it cold turkey, no help except Gum, Sunflower Seeds, toothpicks, and moral support from those around me.

I'm going to avoid the cancer, but all the sodium from the Sunflower Seeds is going to kill me... lol.

Buy stock in David Seeds Co. and Wrigley....

Every time I "slow down" on the dipping, the sunflower seeds tear my gums up worse than the dip. I know, bigger picture.............

The seeds have the inside of my mouth more raw than the dip ever did. But I figure I'll cut back on those as I get less and less hooked to the Cope.

Drink as much water as you can. You body will be dumping out a lot of accumulated toxins once you stop taking them in. Saunas, esp. infrared are excellent: sweat it out. The residues in your system are most of the craving acc. to what I've read. Get rid of the residues and you get rid of the craving. There's a lot of other stuff you can do, but that's a start.

Yesterday was my last day. We'll see how it goes. The biggest obstacle I see is a 4 1/2 hour drive I have to make next week.

long drives suck, especially if your wife is PMS'ing the whole way.
