yeah, that is going to be a doozy. I was able to put off driving for a couple of days all together. I just fill my cheek up with seeds for the ride to/from work. Monday morning was the first time I can remember driving anywhere without a dip in the last 15 years or so.

Driving and right after a meal are my tough times.

Good luck to you, Wob.

Avoid alcohol for a couple months, you know how strong the craving is for a dip after a beer or two.....

After a while, the desire subsides and you'll stop reaching for the can.

Keep it up, I quit cold turkey the first time, about 2 cans a day, lasted about 3 years than dipped again once during turkey season, that was all it took. Chewed for another year or so then quit again but used nicorette, that really helped but you have to ween off that stuff or you'll just replace the chew with the gum(though much better for you). You'll crave a chew everytime you do something you've done in the past with a dip in. I don't think I ever totally got over the craving but keep the faith and don't turn back now, your over the biggest hurdle getting through the first week.

I quit smoking for three months back in 2004 and felt great. Then I had some friends come up from out of town (one of them smokes) and we went to the Casinos. I asked him for a drag of his cigarette and I was good, then when we were at the bar he threw a pack of smokes to me... I shoulda given them back, but it was too tempting.

Going to try quitting here again this weekend, maybe wait till monday.

The hardest parts for me are while driving and after a meal. If I can make it the first 24 hours I'm usually ok, its just that in the middle of the afternoon on the days I "quit" I get really anxious for about an hour or so, and that has ruined many quit attempts. The one thing that really irks me about my lapses is I look back and think "I could have been done smoking for over a year if I would've stuck to it."

Here's to another successful quit attempt.

Good luck on yours, you seem to have the right attitude about it all.

Stick it out, it will get better. I quit smoking 5 months ago. I think I had worse cravings than most. They were horrible for the first 3 months. Every time I ate, every time I got in the car, anything, I wanted one and bad. It finally started to taper down about 6 weeks ago. I still get them but they are better. Just keep sticking with it, it will get better over time. When you are craving bad, think of these things:

1) Do you want your kids to see you as a dipper/smoker?
2) You have spent enough money on your habit to buy every mod you ever wanted for your truck (In my case I smoked my used Porsche).
3) All that having one dip/one smoke will do is cause you to crave more.

As an ex-smoker I know how bad that stuff can be.
Congratulations and keep up the good work. It will pay big time in no time.

Regards

Alvaro

I was doing 1 - 1 1/2 cans a day. If I was awake and not eating, I had a dip in my mouth. Been that way for 14 years. I should have stayed quit after basic training in 1996... but wound up having a 12 hour delay at the airport in Atlanta and found a can to pass my time.

I really feel like I'm over the hump. I finally feel "normal". The first 3 days were hell, but it has been ok ever since.

I did, however, cancel my plans to go to the local bar tomorrow night to watch the UFC. I don't need to be in that environment yet. So I'll either not watch it or reward myself and drop the $40 on it.

All in all, it hasn't been as bad as I was anticipating. I know there will be trials and temptations as the days go by. I've just got to remember how much misery I endured to quit and how stupid it would be to waste that effort by caving into the temptation.

Keep reminding yourself because the misery will wain and be forgotten, and never take even one dip or you'll be back to the same old habits.

Maybe you should go back to your old avatar. THAT was a winner's avatar.

Not this loser crap you've been floating around. Now you don't even have an avatar - you're just a break-even kind of guy.
