Caught an advance 10pm screening tonight and I must say that Bryan Singer(Usual Suspect, X-men 2) has captured the essence of the originals gloriously. Even the opening credits are a complete spinoff of Donner's classics.
And the "new guy" who plays Superman(he's only done soaps so far I think) is fantastic! Totally reminded me of Reeves' Clark Kent and "Man of Steel."
And what a fawkin' curveball this one throws. I'm not spoilin' anything until more have seen it, but WOW!!! Surprise!!!!!

Highly recommended. 5 s.

I will add that it is a little drawn out. It maybe could've been ended a few minutes sooner, but the last minutes were quite interesting although maybe misplaced/miseditted.

I just got back from a midnight screening... And I have to leave for work in 3 hours

Kevin Spacey is awesome as usual.

Kate Bosworth?? I don't know. Not bad for such a young actress (she's only 23), but it almost seemed like they tried to make her look like Norah Jones and for some reason that bugged me.


I thought Brandon Routh did exceptionally well for stepping into a pre-defined role. His presence was neither obtrusive nor insignificant. I suppose credit should go to the director for that, but whatever.

As a whole, not bad IMO. I'm not a comic book fan or a die-hard superhero groupie, but I do enjoy most of the movies. I don't think Superman Returns is on the same level as the Spiderman movies, but worthwhile nonetheless. There were a few slower spots that I had a hard time keeping my eyes open through, but the 2-1/2 hours went by surprisingly fast considering how long I've been awake.

One thing that made me happy: they didn't spoil the badass-ness of the point-blank gunshot by putting it in any preview or trailer that I've seen.
