| Cool Pics from New Jersey and NYC Trip Hey MUDDERS, just got back from a TDY (temporary duty) trip up to Lakehurst NJ to pick up 3 brand spankin new Hawks fresh off the assembly line. This trip was hands down the best TDY I've ever had and I doubt that it will ever be topped.
Well we got to do a bunch of fun stuff and the pictures are pretty cool so I thought I'd share them with my brothas (& sistas) in MUD. Enjoy!
First we visited the Hindenberg disaster site. I didn't even know it was going to be right next to where we pick up the birds. The actual crash site is where those yellow chains are. Anyways, the hangar that was built to house it way back in the 30s is still one of the largest hangars in the world. This thing was massive and of course out of curiosity we had to go climb up in the rafters and check out the cat walks. The other hangars are some of the largest wooden arches ever built.
Then we were lucky enough to "test fly" these babies up the Jersey coast on up into NYC. There was this pretty big bridge that was just screaming for us to fly under, usually considered taboo, so we went for it. Then we flew up past the Statue of Liberty and got up alongside the high rises of downtown Manhattan. We came up on Ground Zero and zoomed in for a couple good shots. Then we proceeded on up towards the Empire State Building and passed the USS Intrepid which had a Concorde on display beside it. Onward we flew til we were overlooking Central Park towards the south. Headed right for Yankees stadium then headed back down the Hudson river. Got to the southern end of Manhattan and swung around towards the Brooklyn bridge. I swear it was like I could reach out and touch the thing.
Overall, if the Army was more like this more often, heck it might not be such a bad gig.
We flew along the coastline waving at all the beach goers, and a nizzasty old people nudist beach, for about 20 miles or so with our legs hanging off the edge (tethered in of course) and got back into Lakehurst. That night we drove back up into the city and saw times square and watched Hitchcock's Birds at the Bryant Park outdoor theater downtown. Hit up a couple pubs and called it a night.
The next day we had to pack up and fly half way back to TX crossing just north of Baltimore and just south of Camp David's restricted airspace. Got into the mountains of West Virginia and did some sweet canyon flying. I'll post more pics when I get em. Stayed in Nashville for the night and had another great evening. Then made it back to Hood the next day.
So now it's back to the real world and packing up for NTC.
Just couldn't keep these pics to myself, so I hope someone enjoys them.
Thanks guys |

| That would be a dream trip ............Being able to see what you did from the Hangers on your feet to dt NYC from a bird.
That hanger is HUGE. Imagine the heating and cooling bill the Govt pays...
I got goose bumps...................Ground Zero still gives emotitions of hate.
