Microsoft Excel Help Needed

Not sure if this can be done but I am trying to create an Excel file that can be updated from different remote locations.

There will be one central file and 4 seperate locations that you can access it from provided you have the proper access.

I am trying to put together a sign-up sheet for our Charity Fishing Tournament. Bank of Colorado and Sportsman's Warehouse are both conducting sign-ups for it.

How can I create a file that can be updated without having to utilize an FTP to upload?

If I understand your request correctly, you are looking for a way to update a single list of signups from multiple locations. If this is correct, you can use SOAP web services using the SOAP toolkit for Office if

1) you have office 2003
2) you have visual studio 2003+
3) you have the office web service toolkit
4) you have skills

That being said, the above is probably the worst way to do what you want. Why would you want to keep a single list synchronized? Why not just let them email in their list everyday and you merge them? There are many ways to do this that would be better if you do need some level of synchronization. Best way would be a website hooked up to any kind of data store (database, xml file, flat text file, etc).

C.

The main reason I want them synchronized is because we have a limited number of boat spaces available. I would want one location to see that there are X number of boat slots available. If there were none available then they wouldn't allow the person to sign one up.

Thats a pretty big effort on a spreadsheet. Maybe just allocate x number of spots per location and adjust daily? Would save a bunch of dev time.

How are the remote sites connecting to the spread sheet?
If they connect via the internet I would suggest you get somebody to build you a simple data base and design a web page for sign-ups.

This really more a data base thing than a spread sheet thing.

I wouldn't go through all the hoops to use excel; it's alot of work.

If you've got a website and MySQL, I'll set it up for you. It'll take a day or two.
