Angry Home Depot Sucks!!!

I have now been on hold for 1 hr and 10 minutes and I'm about to go postal!!!
I ordered some Husky shelves from Home Depot.com mid January. They arrived January 27 and I opened up one tab to see how well they were made. They were not what I wanted so I called within 15 minutes to return them. Home Depot says fine. UPS will be there next week...
Nothing.
I call two weeks later giving them the benefit of the doubt. UPS will be there next week...
Nothing.
I've called 9 FAWKIN' TIMES ALREADY since January 27 and NOTHING!!! They keep saying next week next week next week. I don't know what to do. I only learned after this crap started that HomeDepot.com has some of the worst ratings when it comes to this stuff. Damn. I think I'll be notifyiing the Better Business Bureau today...for all the good that'll do though. Can the attorney general do anything?

Sorry if you aren't interested in this. Didn't mean to waste your time. I needed to rant.

DON'T SHOP AT HOME DEPOT! THESE FUCKERS NEED TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS...unless you want to bring up capitalization and make the argument that they are the only competitors of Lowes.

Oh yeah, on hold for 1 hour 19 minutes and 40 seconds now.

I say dispute the charge, and let them remember to come get the racks. You've told them twice. How may reminders do they need?

Can't you just return them at any Home Depot store? You shouldn't have to, but that way at least you could put it behind you.

Nope. Online merchandise can only be returned to the distribution center. Tried that already.
http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS...D=9876&pos=n54
(click return policy at bottom-left of the page.)
And holy fuckballs! That's new. They just recently put on there that they want to charge me for return shipping!! That's another $100! WTF!?

BTW-1 hr 30 minutes now.

I'm seriously wondering if they have caller ID at this point and just don't want to talk to me. 1hr and 55 minutes. Is this ethical? I wonder if they closed at 5 and are just laughing hysterically at how long I've waited.
One good thing though: I got tired of holding the phone and whipped out the ear-piece that's been sitting in the drawer for months and never used. I like it.

I seriously would not wait on the phone that long. Your time has more value than that. Bill them for the time you've spent on hold.

Hung up @ 2hrs. 5 minutes.

New slogan: "The Home Depot. You can do it. We can shove it up your ass 'cause we don't care."

Next call? The bank to dispute charges. Thanks for the tip.

Now why can't every company have customer service like Wachovia? Dispute is done. No time at all. Home Depot has 30 days to respond. We'll see...

They are definitely in the wrong. Like others have said, I'd dispute the charges and maybe they'll come to their senses.

You just didn't like the shelves, so I don't see anything wrong with them charging you return shipping. It should not be $100 unless they're huge, but since they were not defective and they shipped you the correct product, they have the right to charge you for the return shipping. Doesn't mean they should, but they have the right.

I mean no disrespect, but don't they have samples to check out?

All I'm saying is that that stuff is very expensive.....I spent $800 on the commercial grade ClosetMaid stuff that I put in a former garage, mainly to hold parts like intake manifolds and etc for the Mustangs I owned at the time.....

Something is inherently wrong.....glad you disputed the charges...have you tried talking with the local manager? Policy be damned, he has connections and should be able to get someone to resolve the problem.....

I recently had trouble with Office Depot on a rebate, local guy gave me the home office number, I got a real live person on the phone, and faxed stuff in when the rebate center proved they didn't know their asshole from a hole in the ground....

Best of luck to you, I guess all I have to offer is don't continue to waste your time, go to the top, and they will respond.....and don't buy high dollar sight unseen....

Or just go to Lowe's.....most of their stuff is better anyway.

they might try to reduce your refund, charging a restocking fee. However, they can only legally do that if you returned the product without reason. If the product was defective, damaged in shipping or grossly different from the advertisement, then they cannot charge you a re-stocking fee. If you don't get your full refund, open a second dispute until you get all your money back, BTDT.

Hindsight is 20/20.
There were no samples at the local Home Depot that I could check out so I was ordering blind. I stupidly assumed that the shelves were steel and they were actually panel wood. Those things would've rotted in a month where I was putting them. They looked like steel on the website and there was no mention of what material they were made of. I did complain about this fact.

Since the shelves were strictly an online product, I had no choice but to have them shipped. Total shipping was closer to $150 which was completely reasonable when I thought they were steel and not wood. They looked great and I was excited. It was only upon opening them up to find wood shelves when this crap started...JANUARY 27, 2006.

Customers cannot return online purchases to a Home Depot store. Has to be sent back to the homedepot.com distribution center. So I'm screwed there too.

I wish I'd found the shelves I was looking for at Lowes, Snap-On, Ace Hardware, or a dungeon filled with little munchkin Noahs running around. Anywhere would've been better than Home Depot.

Oh well. Again, hindsight is 20/20. I intend to repeatedly dispute the charges until I get satisfaction...or even a just amount of respect.

I again repeat. Beware of homedepot.com!! I've actually googled "home depot" with words like "returns" and "complaints" and other keywords and found their online business(and even some of their instore) practices to be horrendous. The SEC is investigating them for fraudulent behavior as we speak. Be wise.

I should show this post to my knucklehead neighbor who was going on the other day about how much the corner hardware store "rips us off for" when he compares prices to Home Depot. I dunno, it is worth the extra bucks to me to have em say "Hey, Jim" when I come through the door, and tell me "Hey don't buy that, it's a POS. this one is a buck more, but it will last forever." Had three guys looking at my drawing of the widget I needed, and one said, "Hey, there's a screen door roller bracket that would work if you drilled an extra hole."
There are some good guys at Home Depot, but it's a crap shoot whether you'll get them or one of the muttonheads that pretend they know what they're talking about. I dunno, maybe some of the other HDs are different, but ours seems to have a staff turnover like mcdonalds.

i agree, i would rather pay a couple extra bucks (or more) and have some friendly knowledgable people to talk to and to have a reasonable person should i need to complain or return...
the problem is most people would rather save a buck than have good business dealings...
each to their own.

No apology needed whatsoever. An explanation was in order of why I couldn't buy directly from the store. Damn. I keep kicking myself for getting into such a predicament, but hey, that's life, right?

I actually ended up getting some Closetmaid shelves. When I was looking around before I ordered the Huskies, Lowes didn't have them. I went in there about a month ago during this whole fiasco and found the Closetmaids. Good stuff.

And I love Lowes. I bought my house a year and a half ago and I, as is any new homeowner, am constantly "fixing her up." Lowes has had the same employees(for the most part) the whole time. They know me and I get great help and knowledge. No more Home Depot for me.

I don't know what the Lowes are like in your neck of the woods, but here in North-central WV they suck ass- and they know it. The service is horrible-"electrical specialists" selling lumber, trying to rekey locks- and yea some people have worked there along time, but they bitch and moan constantly about the low pay and crappy hours and lack of managerial support. They hate it so much that they go hide in some corner of the store where no one can find them-and they readiloy admit it. I don't get to do much of my business at HD because the nearest one is 1 1/2 hours away, but for example, the last kitchen I installed that was supplied by HD, the customer service was much better than any that I install from Lowes or the other cabinet shops around. When I came up short on material and had two imperfect doors, one call to the store and I had my parts within four days by UPS. I never get that service from Lowes. My wife wonders why I don't get a full day in, so I try to explain to her that half my week is spent driving to Lowes and waiting for some idiot to help me load drywall or get a manager for an override on a return. They are opening a HD here soon and I am sure that it will take business away from the two Lowes we have in our podunk town. Shit, when the second Lowes came it put most mom and pops out of buciness. The mill I used to work at that had been here 100 years had to shut it's doors within a year because it couldn't compete with Lowes prices.

Plus the lumber at Lowes SUCKS!
