----Original Message Follows----
From: "Dave Mathis" <dave.mathis@greeleypd.com>
Date: Wed, 22 Feb 2006 17:21:45 -0700

The e-mail petition was sent to all of us at Greeley Police Department. Being a life-long police officer I thought I'd send it on to all of my friends and family.

Dave Mathis, Sergeant
Weld County Regional Communications Center 1950 O Street Greeley, CO 80631
(970) 356-4000 ext. 2898

The video game "25 To Life" is due out in stores this month.
The object of this game is to kill LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is putting
Together an on-line petition to boycott this game.
I am asking each of you to go to their web site and please sign the
petition and pass along this info to your family and friends.
National Law <http://www.nleomf.com> Enforcement Officers
Memorial Fund police, cops, fallen heroes
Let's take a stand for what is right .. please, visit the Memorial web
site and sign the petition in memory of all of our fallen officers.

Thank you, Dave Mathis, Sergeant

If this is chat, please move it

before anyone jumps to conclusion, (im not taking any sides) you have a choice in this game... to kill the cops, or to kill the bad guys...

There's already boocoo games out there doing the same thing, like Grand Theft Auto series. None of it should have been put out into stores.

But, GTA Vice City is one of my favourite games, the cops are hilarious. They can't drive, they get crappy cars for cruisers, and they say the funniest things: "Don't make me run, I'll get all sweaty." , "Wow, this is just like training!" , "Don't make me run, I just ate a bunch of donuts." , "I know ju-jitsu, sir!"

technically in the last GTA which is san andreas you are not required to kill cops, at least i can't remember any specific missions, but they are killable just like all other "citizens"

Yep - it is reprehensible. But, do we ban all things offensive?

If I recall, this was a line in a song a while back, "...187 on the undercover cop..."

Pop culture is pretty base.

I don't favor banning anything of that nature - for one, it makes people want it even more.

Insulting? yes. Insensitive to dead officers' families? absolutely. Should we ban them? I don't think so. Don't want your kids playing it? Don't buy the stupid game machines and/or don't buy that game.

Those punks who do treat lives (and peace officers' lives) with disregard will get what they deserve. Might be a better idea to create a bad-ass cop version of a violence game - go undercover and kill all the pimps, dealers, cop killers, etc. Maybe even have a jail-house portion. Get to rape gang members in jail.

Beat them at their own game - make it a non-issue that way.

Wow, who are you and what did you do to LI60?

In some ways I don't disagree with yer logic, although we wouldn't know the end results of such a social experiment for years to come and by then it could be too late. At some point censorship is necessary to protect us from ourselves (damn, it hurts to write that). We have to make rules to blanket the many from the few that will push the limits, I really hate saying that but experience is a great teacher.

There's a big difference between a ban and a boycott. The purpose of this boycott, according to the website, is to discourage parents and caregivers from buying this game for kids, or having kids exposed to the game. Boycotts are a powerful way of sending a message without impinging on the purchasing rights of others. It's a public way of saying "I won't buy this game, and I think you shouldn't either." No one is saying you can't buy the game.

Yeah.. it's awful, horrible, and disgusting. You have to take it upon yourself not to buy it and/or teach your children good judgement though.

I think some people have to decide if video games are a fantasy or not. I mean... for years you've been able to beat people with pipes, light them on fire, chop them in half, shoot Arabs, bomb Germans... it all seemed to be ok with some people until now. How many movies do cops get shot in? I can also remember cops being portrayed as bad guys as far back as Smokey and the Bandit.

I dunno... whoever is getting their panties in a wad over this... welcome to the world the rest of us have been living in. Nice to have you here finally.

I'm all for a boycoott... do your worst. I'm all for "meant for 18 years and older"... but a ban? Get real.

Waste of time and effort. Might get a little media play. I doubt it. Too much cynicism.

is this a ban because what there making into a video game affends the police officers job? or because it might turn the kids into killing demons?

i think one of those reasons would be alot more important then the other.
