Took the Ultimate Flashlight Plunge
Well I made the mistake of cruising back over to the candlepowerforums a few months ago and it has cost me dearly. I have been carrying a lovely Surefire E1e that a friend bought me several years ago. I also had a Surefire 6p I kept in the glovebox, a Streamlight rechargable, and few Streamlight Scorpions.
Since I have gone back over there, it has cost me a new Surefire L2, a U2, a TW4, and 5 Fenix L1P's. Today, I took the big plunge and decided to just go for it and get the ultimate pocket flashlight, a McLux III-PD. I need to block CPF from my browser. Any other flashlight fans here? __________________ I'm married, I can't afford a signature line. |

That's kind of a weird fetish.

Not really. Then of course there are people who are into feet. These are cheaper, don't get you fired, and don't carry diseases.

Jeez, and I thought I was fancy for finding a 3 W Luxeon for $40.
I love good flashlights. I bought my dad a 1W Luxeon as a stocking stuffer over Christmas, he's too cheap to buy anything other than the $5 D cell jobbers... He loves his 1W!, I should get him a 3W just to show him how good a light can be. __________________ Eric P. 1993 Landcruiser, 190K miles. Lifted, Locked, Slidered, Slee'd, Snork'd, Winched, bobbed. My company is looking for new flashlites for the quality assurance division. what is the absolute best we can get? mclux 3-pd? We will be using them to inspect aircraft structures for cracks, In my opinion price is no object for what its being used for. I think I can convince the bosses to see things my way. I have been using a 4 cell maglight. Why is yours better? Clark

I'm a cpf member. Same handle as here. What's yours there?
The PD is a beautiful light. I'm so enamored with my Fenix L1P though that I can't see spending that much more money. Maybe some day. Right now I've been modding all my old full size MagLite bodies. Got some ROPs and I'm waiting on parts for a Mag85. Today I took delivery of a brand new 6 C Mag and popped NiMH C cells and a ROP high bulb in it. It's very bright otherwise unmodified, but the lens got uncomfortably warm almost instantly. Waiting on a stipple reflector and UCL to complete it, then it will be my daily driver vehicle light. My trail rig carries a 7cell ROP in a 6D Mag body. How's that for gobbledygook for the rest of you? PUPTLAM, everything about cary's new light is better than your Maglite, except it can't be used as a club...there is no "absolute best" light, but maybe the best for your application. I would use something small with good color rendition and regulated output. A high bin 1 wattt Luxeon light like a Fenix L2P would be ideal. __________________ Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Al Einstein '99 UZJ100 "The Iron Hippo" / '82 FJ40 "Mustard" / '73 FJ40 |

http://www.fenixlight.com is the manufacturer. It uses two AA's of any type. Rechargeables are fine. A good place to buy one is http://www.lighthound.com , or go to http://www.candlepowerforums.com and start searching and reading. An excellent review site for flashlights is http://www.flashlightreviews.com
Luxeon is a brand name for a family of LED emitters manufactured by a company in the US called Lumileds. They put out WAY more light than other LEDs and WAY WAY WAY more light than a comparable wattage incandescent. A lot of flashlight manufacturers use Luxeon emitters. You would be amazed at the lights the Navy uses now. SureFire has become the defacto US military vendor, and all of their products are really really nice. __________________ Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Al Einstein '99 UZJ100 "The Iron Hippo" / '82 FJ40 "Mustard" / '73 FJ40 Last edited by yooper; 02-13-06 at 08:50 PM. |

Streamlight Strion or Inova T4 are good choices for that. They both come with AC and DC chargers, so you can have one in the house or garage and another in the vehicle. Kinda pricey but well worth it...check out http://www.flashlightreviews.com for good reviews. __________________ Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Al Einstein '99 UZJ100 "The Iron Hippo" / '82 FJ40 "Mustard" / '73 FJ40 |

Sorry, typo, try http://www.fenixlight.com, but that's just the manufacturer in China, you can't buy anything there. The fenix-store link is a dealer in the US, and a good guy. I bought all of my Fenix lights from him. lighthound.com is another good choice. Check out the review site above for good info. __________________ Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Al Einstein '99 UZJ100 "The Iron Hippo" / '82 FJ40 "Mustard" / '73 FJ40 |

We use flashlights everyday at work. Always had Mag Lights until I found SureFire. Small, compact and very bright. Mine are now well over 5 years old, and still work flawlessly. Old style 6P and 9AN ??
Have changed batteries and a couple of bulbs over the years. __________________ Capt. Jim Florida Land Cruiser Association North Florida Cruiserheads Upstate Cruisers TLCA #5390 |

I picked up an L2 while I was in UAE last August. Surefires are fucking AWESOME flashlights.
Damn bulbs and batteries are expensive though ![]() I still need to order me that LED one that you can charge by shaking it in a shucking motion

I am a tool junkie, don't drag me into your sick world. I went with the 5 led Streamlights and have been lusting after the SureFires. Cookiemonster is a bad influence too. After being a LEO, he has tried to recruit me to the "light" side, but I really believe it's the dark side, just brighter than you'd expect.

I mean, I can understand guys having a freudian fetish for big 4D lights, but these little itsy bitsy ones, if that's what you are wishing for, they don't make you look so good, guys...
