Yeah, I know... not Toyota related, but....

I was reading a story in Automotive News today that made mention of a month-old announcement by Mercedes that I must have missed.

While they were at one time considering replacing their G500 with a soccermomified luxo ute, they have instead chosen to keep importing the G into the United States "for the next 5 years and maybe beyond".

The interior will be redesigned, and the G500 will be made available with Mercedes new V-6 and V-8 turbodiesels.

The story makes it sound like the GL class, the luxo ute rumored to replace the G500, will still be built as a new SUV in Alabama.

The G500 will still, as always, be built in Austria.


Just thought it was interesting that the demise of one of the last SFA options in the US has been suspended for the time being.

The next model wrangler will be SFA still.

Good for mercedes, the V8 Turbodiesel should kick ass, I bet it'll be their 4.0L twin-turbocharged Diesel, good for 450ft-lbs or so.
