Nasty, hope they are alright.

Those are Suzuki Jimny's, like the Samurais we had here in canada, but newer of course. I am sure they are very light and would float quite easily.

Regards

Does anyone speak/read Taiwanese? That was gnarly. I'm guessing the text at the end was telling the outcome, but it looked pretty grim.

one thing I was thinking about this incident is this is one instance where you'd be better off having a strap with a hook than a loop - if you have to catch on something real fast under adverse conditions. Can't see putting on a shackle under fast water like that....

I kept thinking about the other vehicles and people that were attempting the rescue. That river kept getting higher and higher and they were all parked out in the middle of it. I wouldn't be surprised if more people/vehicles weren't lost before that night was over.

That's cool they lived. It looked like they were goners for sure and the video stopped as soon as they went under.

The links to the first pics are not working.

So what was the story. Several of the vehicles were numbered, was it a XC race or something? What river was that?

Wow! Hope the group reevaluates their river crossing protocol. Yikes. That's one lucky couple. All that at dusk too.

That's the way it looked. Great truck thou. LC 70 Prodo

http://img5.picsplace.to/img.php?fil.../FTS_20045.jpg

He joined a local off-road challenge competition, that's the number sticker came from.
That day he was joining the group meet to river crossing and hot spring SPA. Weather was good in the morning, but good luck did not last long. There's hard rain afternoon, that prado could not engage the f/r e-locker in the river, then got stuck. Current is fast, made that truck a little roll over. Then water came in from snorkle, engine shut off, lose power. That's it.

The driver made the midstake of trying to get out of the water facing upstream. You should go down stream and have the current help push the vehicle onto the bank.

But they may have ran out of island.

The biggest mistake he made was too much trust to the toyota factory e-locker. That's why I switch to cable one. lol

The river here do have a lots of rocks in the river, not like at your home. So, once engine shut off, the truck will be moved by fast current, if it hit the rock underneath, will easy got roll over in the river.

By the way, my " LC48" never let me down till now. lol

That's some scarey stuff right there... We here in AZ know not to attempt to cross running water while it is raining withing like 100 miles of us..

Just wondering...

Would it have helped or hurt to put a few rigs in the water to help redirect the current? I have seen some of the alaska cruiser dudes doing that in the Trails. Just wondering... looked like a scary situation and some deep water for sure.

Glad everyone was okay

The vehicle that is stranded is a Prado 70. You can see the telltale front indicator lights and rear 1/4 vents

I think this group probably crossed the river in the morning when it was ok then found they were racing a rising river with darkness closing in.
Not an enviable situation to be in,but Im glad they got out.
That river must have been flowing at 30-40 mph

I took a few screen grabs. The movie is 20+ minutes long and needs a fast connection. The grabs are low res and fuzzy but you get the picture.

Here they are going into the river, waters already over the hood:

almost looks like they might make it here, then the current starts pushing them sideways:

Then the engine swamps, stalls and the truck gets knocked over by the river. The driver and passenger climb on top and the other vehicles stop and make attempts to rescue them.

Eventually the river gets even bigger and the truck starts to get pushed down stream and they bail with an inner tube around them tied to a rope. I thought they were drowned for sure.
