Cool government 4x4 van

I merged onto the hiway yesterday among 4 of these badass vans, new Fords with dsls, 4x4's, all sporting Gov plate, all black, all with custom front and rear bumpers, winch on the front, AC unit on the roof, all kinds of electonics between driver and passanger.....all but front windows very tinted. Was kinda cool, they waved me into the group......I was in the black 100.......maybe they thought I was one of them guys in this van gave the 100 a thumbs up

curious what they are using them for, Connie said she has seen them on the hiway before.

Be pretty cool if Sydney Bristow jumped out and asked you to help her on a secret mission

government plates on a rig like that... i dunno.... trying to cover up the existence of alien life?

If I ever had to purchase a Van.... that would be the one.

I can't really tell from the pics, but it looks as if the windows in the rear doors have been replaced with metal....?

I'm guessing some type of police agency judging by the emergency lights on the back...

was the front bumper road armor or something?

I had a rear bumper like that on a Winnebago.....It held the hose to drain the poo-poo tank.

yes bumper was simalar, but different.

those rear lights were not colored from what i could tell, they were LED's though.

Rear bumper had 3 locking compartments

windows were glass not metal, no bars, it apeared to be open from the front to the rear.

it was a Quigely(sp) conversion I think

guys were not in uniforms, but were wearing shades in the rain

They were headed to Tacoma, so they were prolly coming from the Navel Sub Base in Bangor, up past Bremerton. But why would they need 4x4 vans? these had never been off the road, undercharage was clean.

If I were to guess I would say they were one of the SEAL Teams or Coast Guard units that runs around in the armed Safe Boats(which are made local here) Would make sense to have a 4x4 van for them, but these sure were well built and not cheap rigs

Funny thing is, they were probably guys monitoring volcanic activity or something else that's way mundane.

Oh crap, that reminds me, bout 2 months ago Connie was in the kitchen.....she starts yelling........."there is a Helicopter in the yard!!!!" I am like WTF.........go outside and sure as shit this red copter is hovering nose to my house maybe 100ft off the ground maybe 50 yards(right at the property line) from our door.......went outside and it took off very fast. No clue who or what they were doing, but besides my 14 rigs, my next door neighbor has about 10 odd rigs....who knows but it was a trip.

I have seen vans like those used by the Secret Service as communications and other "special" purposes.

I could tell you more but the black choppers are now circling my house.

Looks similar to the White House Comm van, but not enough antennas.

Secret service is pretty much that. They don;t like attention same with most of the agencies. More likely to be as Pimp pointed out. Coasties or Naval guys of some kind. The vehicles the law enf. side drives are mundane everyday vheicles, but you pop the hood, l;ook underneath or inside & it's a whoel different world indeed. I've worked with, & am related to too many in this field.

Next door to the Newark NJ airport Ramada (a dive) there's an office building with a shoe string budget sign out front that says "World Center". After staying at the Ramada several times over the last few years I began to notice many of the vehicles in the parking lot seemed strange. Most seemed to have more antennas than the average Joe would need, windows with deep tint, all domestic makes. It was pretty obvious they were undercover vehicles for surveillance, stings, etc. I went for a walk and ended up behind the strange office building. The rear parking lot is full of vans that look like the one pictured above. I'm going into hiding now as I've probably just violated certain portions of the Patriot Act.

Was there a strange looking semi-truck and trailer in the area? Could be a SST convoy.

my father has a ford that looks just like that (minus the funky bumper) and when a friend of mine from college who "works" for the gov't in DC saw it, he commented that when you see a van like that cruising around your hood, it's time to leave town.

They have an HF-length antenna on there and it doesn't appear to be adjustable height nor with an antenna tuner so it looks like a fixed-frequency HF. Which means: it's doubtful a communication truck, and law enforcement has been on VHF/UHF for decades so that's not it either.

But external AC in the PNW? If you were in AZ sure, but there's something needing cooling back there.
