Lab Field Service Technicians...salary question

I am going to be moving from one company to another during a purchase, and while I have taken a pay cut to work for this smaller company I feel as if I need to put forth the effort to be sure I dont lose any more of what I am worth.
As of now I am doing troubleshooting support, service and validation on all manufactured lab instruments from HP/Agilent, Waters, Varian, Gilson, Shimadzu, etc. The new company is interested in us because of the service and expertise we provide and have accumulated over time.
This is well over and above what an instrument manufacturer provides, as they generally provide support to their instruments only. They will be providing a car, and expenses since I will be traveling frequently, but I was curious if anyone here was in the same business, and wouldnt mind PM'ing me a ball park idea of what they are making. I hope this doesnt seem too tacky, but I wanted to get real world numbers instead of stuff from career HR websites. If you could let me know who you work for as well, that would even be a bigger bonus for me.

Thanks!

No, not exactly the same field, I'm more of one of those guys that would call you up for tech support. But, anything with lab tech in the title isn't going to get you paid what you deserve. And I'm not sure what pay is like in your neck of the states, but most techs only make between 25k-40k. Slap a masters degree on top, you can add 5-10k to that.

Thanks! I was using the term tech as more of a generic term though. I am a chemist, but I have found myself in an on site field role. I have a wide range of responsibilities going from PM's to writing protocols. I bill at $220 an hour, unfortunately for me, I dont get that in my paycheck..

Can't help you in your particular field, I can only back up what snailwagon said...

My company, "Field Service Technicians" make 40-50K per year. "Field Service Engineers" are pulling $60-100 depending on experience.

THe difference between the two? It sure as hell isn't skill, cause an experienced millwright with 20+ years experience has forgotten more about these machines than a kid fresh out of engineering school knows... It's the degree, that's all.

We supply machinery for the manufacture of pulp, paper, rubber, minerals, petrochemical, mining equipment as well as marine diesels and other heavy marine equipment. We also make specialty DCS and process control equipment, and Porsche Boxsters.
