Avatar scaling

I've set up an online avatar scaling program for those who have images that they want to scale to avatar size. Obtain the absolute URL for the image you want to use and enter it here:



You can then save the results and enter them into your user profile. vBulletin (the software for this foum) doesn't allow you (don't know why yet) to enter the resulting URL into it's own URL submission form, I'll keep working on that.

In the meantime this will hopefully save the weekly thread about how to I resize an image for one's avatar.

Oh yeah, it only does GIFs ,JPEGs, and BMPs now, but I want to get PNGs also working. Stupid hosting companies not giving you a full library of code...

So it will not keep the animation of a gif?

Nope, sorry not yet that requires slicing and iterating over each of the GIF frames and recombining after the scale into a GIF file again. Re-creating GIF files also have hostirical legal problems as the format and compression were patented. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gif#Uni...nt_enforcement

JPEG /PNG(MNG) does allow for animation, but few if any browser's support them

Nah, had to use the programming in another project of mine so mine as well just expose it to you folks, and certainly doesn't take that much work; pretty simple. I think it works a little easier than resizing it for those not in the know on that...

No my dream is to make a few million, buy an Island Packet & take them out of school for a semester and cruise the Caribbean and teach them how to sail, then stay at home raise my kids until there's an empty nest and be back on the boat, drunk on Grog, and die poor.
