Sounds like California has been well represented here today. Never been there. I hear it's pretty nice, minus the flamming liberals, pollution, violent crime, etc.....

I'm happy to live right here in NorCal where the refineries are too close the gun laws too strict the Homo's too close and the earthquakes to unpredictable. Damn I love it here.

Great surf, beautiful babes, great entertainment, weather is unbeatable, and the Rubicon isn't too far away.

Vote for Doug!!!

California is a fun place. Lived up north for a few years. Take away all the crazy people and all your left with are fruit and nuts.

Friend of mine moved there last year. He got a $30,000 per year raise to move there. Somehow he's even poorer there than he was here???

Told me my house would be like $1,000,000 in most decent parts of LA. I love this house and I wouldn't pay that much for it anywhere, no matter how nice the weather is.

I love to visit California but would never, ever seek to live there. Just this man's opinion.

Well, this beautiful weather can kiss my f-ing ass. We've just had the first rains I've ever seen here in the coast area of Los Angeles in my 30+ yrs. of living here. Our townhouse complex is in the middle of getting a new roof, and I'm on the Homeowners Association.

It may be a long, wet winter.

I feel for you brother, hated doing the new roof on my complex and I was in charge of supervising the contractor. One of the main reason why I sold my condo and bought a house. Ironically now my house need a new roof.

-The drive up the Pacific Coast to Oxnard is amazing even whilst sitting in the backseat blitzed out of your gourd. The Pepperdine campus is astonishing.
-The Embassy Suites hotel was great. They gave this blathering fool an upgrade from a two-queen/one suite room to a four-bedroom "apartment." Yeah. Paid $187 a night for a room that should've cost around $600 a night.

I grew up here in oxnard, back in the 70's the Embassy Suites site was just a plowed dirt field for about ten years because the developer could not get any one to invest in a luxury hotel in oxnard, a.k.a nards', go figure (spent our wedding nite there 19 years ago too). Oh yah, it sucks here the weather the people the housing the surf the taxes the traffic the smog the jobs, etc.

Everything outside of LA county is decent.

My office is in CA (Claremont), so I have to visit a few times a month, but under much protest...

Having lived there for 20+ years, you can have it! Prescott is my little nirvana...

I'm not a Cali-hater. But Cali hates me. Not wanting to live there does not imply hatred on my part. Banning "ugly" guns or mindlessly restricting a law-abiding citizen's right to purchase them (as compared to other states) implies hatred on that government's part--that on top of taxing the devil outta everybody who has the gumption to get a job and put two nickels together.

So I know what's good about California (my son would be 5th generation, huge family).

That said, I generally tell people who are visiting California because a travel agent said it's a nice place to visit to pass. They're going to see Mann's Chinese Theatre, Disneyland, 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica (if they're German they'll get mugged), Chinatown in San Francisco and then get carsick in a bus tour of Yosemite Valley. And they will spend a bunch of money doing it.

But I set friends up who are open to different stuff all the time, and they are always stoked once they get out of the predictable areas (as LoveTractor did).

It's an incredible place. Easy to find the dark side, but the fun stuff is incredible if you know where to look.

-The bar "Encounters" in the middle of all the terminals at LAX is one funky place. UFO/alien theme. I didn't think that was possible. And whatta beautiful view.
-Venice Beach is one large brouhaha of people...and you can find anything there.
-LA SUPER RICA absolutely rocked. Thanks, OZCAL!!! All the locals standing in line wouldn't shut up how great it was. The chef/owner even came out to hug some broad. I loved it! Tiny as hell though. Think I could franchise one out here?
-The drive from Oxnard to Santa Barbara was even better than the drive up from LA to Oxnard. I didn't think that was possible.
-My friends give a great wedding.
-Hangovers suck.
-More alcohol cures a hangover.
-LA rules. We drove down and spent our last night(Saturday night) there. Stayed on Sunset Blvd. at the Grafton right across from Comedy Store.
-And IN-N-OUT BURGER also cures a hangover. I took everybody's advice and ordered "animal style" on 2 double-doubles. DAMN that's good. Great shakes too.
-Griffith Park is huge. And the walk up for a good view of the HOLLYWOOD sign is well worth it. But IN-N-OUT gives you cramps...especially with a hangover.
-The Saddle Ranch bar on Sunset has the best service I've ever encountered. You walk in and the bartender is literally looking past all the other customers right at the bar looking for your order at the door. Or maybe it's 'cause I'm so good-looking because that bartender was hot as hell as were many of the other women in LA.
-Oh yeah. The mechanical bull at the the Saddle Ranch was great entertainment. Some hot chick did a beautiful "slow ride."
-The darker bar at The Standard is mediocre. Not necesarily my kind of scene. We left rather quickly.
-Some "procurer" came up to me on the walk out of The Standard with a stunningly beautiful woman in tow. I was confused about what he was asking and walked off. My friend from LA told me about 5 minutes later what a "procurer" is.
-IHOP at 3:30am tastes the same no matter where you are. MMM MMM GOOD
-Waking up for a flight at 8am after a night of fun can really put a damper on a good time. Talk about depression coming on quick.
-LAX is really easy to navigate around. Simple layout. Don't be scared.
-A 5 hour flight with a crying baby onboard after days of drinking will make you feel like jumping off the frickin' plane. I was about to tear the baby out of the mom's arms and shove it into the overhead compartment. Seriously. Closest I've been to some kind of breakdown.
-Jet lag sucks...again, especially with a hangover.
-Home is where I want be. Pick me and turn me 'round. I love returning to the South. The Citadel girl's soccer team was on my flight from Charlotte to Charleston. That was nice.

I loved it. I'm planning a trip to visit again with my girlfriend very shortly. You Californians have a great place there that you should be proud of. I would suggest to anyone who hasn't made the trek to do so. Great people all over. Thanks for such a great time.

That is all. In the words of the great sage Kip, "Peace out."
I'm going back to bed.
It's always interesting to hear about what non-Californians think of it. I do have to tell you- next time be careful on Venice Beach.
Last two times I was over there, blood was shed.

Holy thread-revival, Batman! I didn't think you'd bring this back to the top when I posted the link. I think you just pissed off Shahram. Run far away! He spits venom over this thread.

And yes I've heard that about Venice Beach. I was there in the afternoon. I hear the vampires only come out at night.
