Daughterofromer learned the value of Armor - Accident

I am just about to drain the radiator on the 40 when I get the call, " Dad, you better come to Orchard and Dayton right now. I am in a 4 car accident and its not my fault." I asked a few quick questions to make sure she is OK, I then jumped in the 40 a drove over there.

Her runner is getting modified, so she borrowed the Lexus. Good thing she didn't still have the Malibu or it would have gotten squished.

Near as I can tell, Rachel was in the left turn lane and another car was next to her. Both stopped at the red light.

Now an older gentleman (Car farthest from Rachel- in picture 3. Can't see in first 2 pics) was turning from the opposite direction. I think he had a red light, otherwise Rachels would have been green.

a young girl was coming through left to right in the first picture, hit the other car and careened into the Lexus (more like bounced off) and hit the other car waiting at the light.

The most important thing is Rachel and everyone else was fine.

Its amazing how tough the bumpers are made by ARB. The wife then came and said "I want a bumper on the rear of her 4runner and I'll pay!

The silver car hit the bumper starting at the front of her car and it gauged her car all the way down.

Maybe I can convince wife of romer I need a rear bumper too!

Here is a pic showing all 4 cars. The one on the right (Brown) is the older gentlemman who was turning. The silver one is the girl who was going through the intersection. The Police are guessing the older gentleman ran the light.

All the passenger side damage to the silver car is fron hitting the Lexus.

Great everyone is ok, especially your daughter. I wouldn't say that tested the strength of the LX, but it certainly could have, any different split-second decisions by any of them could have landed your daughter right in the middle of that...in anycase, isn't that exactly why you bought the LX, to protect the family...well looks like it's doing pretty good...

Nope, I looked in the engine bay and I climbed underneath. Just the scratches high and low. I think the high one is from her mirror.

I am glad everyone was OK. Since they have to repaint your bumper for you might as well get it color matched. Leave the uprights black. I wonder if it would be worth it to check it on a frame machine. Probably not.

I am thrilled that your daughter is safe and sound.

It doesn't look like the airbags deployed are they still functional?

When my 17 yo sees these pictures, he will want to try it on mine.

what you don't see in the pics, is the guy from the neighboring state who burned a doughnut in the middle of the crossing and then fled the scene. i tell ya... those people from that state are just jerks!

Airbags are meant to deploy only in certain circumstances, one of which is (for frontal airbags) head on collision. It probably shouldn't go off on a "glancing" blow like that, or a side impact, etc. or even if rear ended. It may also have a speed threshold which doesn't arm it when standing, not sure about all the specifics. Does save alot of money when they don't go off and aren't needed.

To be honest i dont know when the air bags would go off when you have an arb as i have had several dead on and glancing blows to my ARB and nothing happened. Several hard enough to put dents and bends int he ARB and yet nothing. My guess s unless your really haulen and hit something un movable then your not gonna have and pillows.

damn...that couldn't have turned out any better.

glad everyone is ok...including the Lexus

Make sure the other car didn't hit the winch cable. It would not be good if it was damaged the next time you used it.

Save the pictures and send them to ARB. My wife was hit in our 80 my an SL Mercedes. The car hit the truck perpendicular at the ARB and bent the side wing back and under. The Benz went under the bumper lengthwise, opening up it's hood and peeling the fender. When I was replacing the bumper, I happened to mention it to ARB and they were very interested in the photos.

Glad she's OK. Nice bit of flex you're getting off the Honda

Hi All:

Glad to hear that your daughter is safe!

Good pics of the Denver suburbia! ;-)

Gotta love the ARB Bull Bar! I hit a VW Golf in a 45 degree collision - tweaked the sheet metal on one corner of the truck and the corner of the ARB 'Bar, yet the Golf was "totalled."

Sorry about hte whole accident - sucks for everyone involved!

Go sliders and rear bumper!! ;-)

Regards,

Alan

Looks like the sticker on the side is totaled. You should sue for pain and suffering! Mental anguish, insomnia keeping you up nights worrying about the replacement sticker....Get a lawyer.

Glad your daughter's OK - hope she's not too shaken up. Even small accidents are scary the first time.

So the culprit is the guy in the hat? Always a warning sign for me...

Wow, i still can't even believe today. when it first happened i was dialing my dad's cell, work, pager and home like crazy!!! (he was in the garage most likely with music playing) i felt so bad, even though i did nothing wrong, just the fact that it happened to his car while he let me use it upset me. i took a break from that intial panic to get out and check the damage....

Now, i don't think accidents, damage, suffering, etc. are even the slightlest bit humorous but when i finished my appraisal i had to laugh, my mental image was WAY off. Now instead of some huge, dramatic issue i could tell my dad "Hey, i think you just got mom's rear bumper approval!"

Thankfully no one was injured, and while other vehicles' did, my airbags didnt go off, leaving me concsience to type this reply now, since apparently i drive like i should have grandchildren my age.....

I didn't see anything except the final impact with the lexus, but it did take the police a fair amount of time to decide upon guilt between a girl who i thought was 12 (talking on phone to friends, during AND after crash who can be quoted as saying "i thought the light was green...?") and the older gentleman (who seemed not to have realized he was inside a car, let alone the middle of an intersection by his comments)

After everything was clear we got to leave (in the car's that were driven to the scene) feeling annoyed by the time consumption, sorry for non toyota 4x4 drivers, and so very happy we believe in mods!

They say most accidents happen within a mile of home, so you should have been out of the danger zone

Glad you're OK.

I think I can speak for the masses when I say WE'RE ALL GLAD YOU ARE OK! Collisions are a big PITA, but do happen. At least you had the smarts to call Romer immediately!! GOOD GIRL!! I think that's the best advice I ever got when I was starting out.........1) NEVER admit it was your fault and 2) call dad ASAP and have him bring camera. A picture tells a thousand words.......and should you have to battle at all with an insurance company, you have the pics to help. You are wise beyond your years, daughterofromer!!!

Romer......sweet looking 40. I'll be down that way sometime this fall, would like to see it in person if possible.
