Hi. We’re the Peace Canyon Toyota Swamp Donkeys, a newly formed Toyota 4x4 club located way up in Northern British Columbia, Canada. We’re looking at becoming a Chapter Club of the TLCA and we are seeking your opinion about our proposed logo.
Some people feel that our logo is somewhat controversial as it portrays an animal beneath a tire of a Cruiser. There is concern that it does not portray a TLCA chapter as adhering to ‘tread lightly’ principles. Moreover, it has been suggested, “that perhaps it would send the message to the public that TLCA is about running over animals, or that the TLCA condones this.” However, we believe that our logo represents life in Northeastern British Columbia. Our Cruiser is outfitted with a camper as camping is a huge part of recreational activities in the North. The broken window and headlights are reminders of the poor road conditions up here. The flexing Cruiser and big tires represent the need for a properly modified rig in order to conquer the rugged terrain. But, why on Earth would we want roadkill in our logo? Well, as people living, working and playing on and around the Alaska Highway and other area roads, we see a lot of roadkill. It’s a sad fact of life – hundreds of animals lose their lives due to collisions with vehicles. We’re not glorifying the gruesome nature of death on the highway, but in fact are simply portraying the reality of life in Northeastern British Columbia. So what should we do? Should we change our logo because some may find it offensive? Or, can it be taken as intended – ie; embracing reality? Please keep in mind that noone in our club has ever hit an animal with his/her vehicle on purpose, nor has anyone ever driven or posed their vehicle on top of roadkill. The Peace Canyon Toyota Swamp Donkeys respect nature and strictly adhere to the principles of ‘treading lightly.’ Thanks for your input. ~ The PCTSDs __________________ MAKING DENY LOOK COOL SINCE 2003! 73 FJ55 / 76 FJ40 / 81 BJ42 / 85 BJ73 |

The logo makes it look like a moose killing caravan club. With all that wonderful wildlife up there, why choose to depict a dead animal, and one getting run over at that? Seems childish. I vote no dead animals. (or as someone else suggested, if it has to be a dead animal make it a pit bull (and perhaps the baby it mauled)

So, you guys regularly drive over dead mooses (mice?) on the middle of the road? If you want to accurately reflect the driving conditions up there, why not show a live moose being slammed by the front of a Cruiser? Or would that make it too hard to recognise the truck? The pic is sick, but I can understand wanting to be controversial while claiming "its accurate." Its unnecessary.

If you have to have the moose, I'd make it cartoonish. Like Bullwinkle. The way it is just looks like you hit meese with your Cruisers and use them as obstacles.

If you need to explain it - then don't use it.

if the explanation takes more than 5 seconds (ie: I Hate Mud), then you will soon be irritated justifying your logo to all those that question it....

I agree with Jim... If you have to explain it, you shouldn't use it.
There are more knowledgeable on here, but from my experience you need a logo that is easily identified, with a simple and concice message and not too detailed for long term recognition by your customers. Humans recognize things by shape most of the time -- patterns. Go for simple, you don't have to communicate all the environmental things you guys up there deal with -- like you said, those up there already know about them. I vote to take it back to the drawing board and think "simple, easily recognized." Good luck guys!! Remember, you asked our opinions.... You're gonna get a lot of them. I vote remove the dead animal, as it appears to promote and glorify the wheeling of Cruisers to the detriment of animals and it is insensitive, put it this way if it was portrayed as a human under the wheel perhaps maybe a child and the and it would be very clear to see that it would be offensive and yet they get run over every day as well there is no difference. Offloading is often under threat in many countries by people who whish to ban it why help them with there propaganda, it is the sort of image that they would love to portray. Maybe a greater effort could be made to prevent these sorts of accidents, perhaps by removing the bull bars people would be a little less gun ho and take a little more care. A more heroic and perhaps worthwhile stance might be showing the Cruiser involved in some sort of conservational or rescue role, something that may benefit others.

Charla,
I like the moose in the logo, but not under the cruiser. Maybe you could have it driving the cruiser, with it's horns sticking out the window. Go back to the drawing board. Including a sad fact of life that you have to live with is not a good idea when that sad fact means the end of a life. Having a Cruiser on a pile of garbage would be funny for the Staten Island Cruisers (if there were such a club) because they've had a huge landfill there for years, but having, say, a dead "wetback" caught under the tire for some club along the Rio Grande (sorry for use of the term "wetback") would definitely not be funny.

IF you are the Swamp Donkeys, why don't you have your logo with the truck coming through the swamp with a donkey standing at the edge looking at you with the expression of "WTF, why are you in my swamp". Just and idea, but this would be a good way to show off what the trucks can do and include the Donkey too. Good luck with the logo.

Actually swamp donkey is slang for Moose up here. But I never thought so many people would take it so seriously, I think it's sort of funny, but I get where all you guys are comming from.

I like the moose as part of the theme, but under the tire isn't really funny, appealing, accurate or useful. Not worth the hassle of explaining it or defending it. Have him driving or riding co-pilot in the rig. That would be funny, appealing, and completely inaccurate...which is why it would be humerous and appealing.
If you are dead set on a roadkill theme, always use the male of the species. Female animals are generally off limits in any cartoon or image that depicts injury, pain, or death. __________________ Don '87 Turbo Runner '97 FZJ80 waiting for the wife to finish using it! <----- I miss my 60! |

Logo as is...NO. I'm picturing a Big Daddy Ed Roth theme Here with a muscle bound slobbering psycho-moose sticking way out the top of a pissed off 40 series doing damage to some rocks.

If you had a cruiser getting some flex on a live bull's ass, with him turning around while eating and looking slightly pissed off, I think that would be acceptable, maybe.

Yep, a bull blocking the road standing head to head with a Cruiser, a lovesick bull chasing a Cruiser, that sort of thing.

This is a great idea Alvaro. Right now it looks like a "hit moose w/ your truck & chop off their antlers club" If the moose was driving, that would be a fun logo. Quote:
