| Damn look close at that thing though.....it's a mix of a 60 and an fzj80. Pretty friggin bad ass if you ask me. I know 88k is steep, but look at the detail in that sucker. I dig it, couldn't afford it, but like it.

| $88k asking is expensive but not outrageous for that kind of work. Lots of labor and custom parts on that one. My friend restores old Jeeps for a miniumum of $50k and he has more work than he can handle.

| 88k isn't that bad I don't think.
YEs, it's ALOT of money,
But, it's a hand made vehicle.
Built in california, which isn't exactly low rent...
Compare it to a Hot rod build by CHip Foose or Boyd Coddington.
$88k is nothing. |

| I just went to TLC yesterday to pick up some parts.... well what kind I say... its TLC... labor charge $100.00 an hour plus $180.00 just to diagnosis your cruiser. |

$88k is nothing. | True dat. They have had that thing listed for awhile though. I can see the 500 hours but at the end of the end of the day what does it get you? I see two trucks that would cost less than half of that if you bought the most pristine examples of both. Those hot rod guys will always get their price because everybody can see that it is custom. It is cool but sorta pointless. |

Perfect for those jonesing for the 60 look with 80 comfort and capabilities...

| Like most of their stuff, it will sit there for a bit, the price will come down a little and someone with more $$ then they know what to do with will snap it up.
I think its cool, and really well done, I was watching that site while they did the build, perfect Cruiser if you ask me, 60's style and 80's driveability.

| I've been to TLC and met the owner, he took my wife and I for a tour through his shop.
I have to say, the stage 3 Cruisers at TLC / full blown restored are nicer than my wifes 100 series was when we drove it new of the lot with 5 miles on it in 2003.
TLC's Cruisers are pricey, but 1 that's California for you and 2, if you were going to buy a restored Cruiser from someone else, TLC is the place to get one. For sure.
I have never in my life seen Cruisers restored to the condition TLC does.
It would be like buying a brand new Cruiser.
I was thinking about that 60 on the 80 chassis today on the way home from trail running today. Thinking, if I only had cash to blow.
But I really want the 78 55 series TLC'c restoring more. Well, that and a restored 78 FJ40 from TLC too, and about a 78 45 truck and so on.
It would be nice to have a 70's model Cruiser and know that I wouldn't have to work on it every day for a change. Just get in and drive. |

| So, if money was no object and you were having a cruiser restored (any model under the 80 series) would you have the OEM motor balanced/blueprinted and brought up to better than new conditions; or, cram a vortec or some other non-toyota motor in it?

| I'd go with the 1FZ or 1HD for sure and have OEM manuals/housings shipped in that bolted right up too.
Let's not forget Slee's 6" lift if it's gonna be on a 80 chassis.
I've even thought it would be cool to have a 55 with 80 drivetrane.
If I had the money to throw at expensive toys.
With the 1HD I would run straight vegetable oil so those 37" tires would be a little more enviro friendly.
I wonder how much a tank full of peanut oil runs? |

| I cannot justify anything over $30K in a cruiser!! That it!!
Its not a prestigious family sedan - its a friggin (although loving too) LC. One would hate to even get it scratched if $7.k for paid for it ..
This place has to sell "something" that is within reason, else how do they keep the doors open - OR am I just behind times and my FJ is worth all that ?? |

| If you look closer at the picture of the back seat, there is almost no leg room and I doubt if someone seating there be very comfortable.

| A little further down the page is a truck for $75,000.00 with a Vortec motor. NOTHING with a Vortec motor is worth $7,500.00!

| even better Leith Toyota in Raleigh has a 75-79 model 40 in their showroom.
Chromed out V8, automatic, 20+inch rims, low profile/wide road tires, custom hard top that looks like a soft top, more leather than I've ever seen in any car and so on. Basically a FJ40 hotrod that isn't even driven.
Oh, and there's like an appraisal on the tailgate bragging about how this Cruiser cost $630,000.00 to build.
So I asked the parts lady that I've been getting parts from for 15 years who the "idiot" was that payed that much for that Cruiser and what the hell they were thinking. She tells me that the guy who owns "Leith" owns and had this Cruiser built.
Go figure.
I wish I had money to waste like that.
Then everyone would have another reason to call me an idiot.
So much for giving to people who are homeless and starving. Or paying taxes. |
