window tint

one of the things i noticed about my land cruiser when i bought it was that it has that oh sooooo annoying kinda aftermarket stick on window tint. the person who put it on the windows did a very good job i must say. however, they put it on every single solitairy window i have in that landcruiser. there is even a little strip above the windsheild. i think it looks tackey, its starting to look even more purple, and i can't see a thing when im driving at night. so i started ripping it off using a razor blade and some goo gone. its worked pretty well, but its messy and takes forever. any ideas as to what you think the best method of removing it is?

Try a heat gun on low setting, you should be able to pull off larger sections and then clean up with goo gone.

Did it cut down on the reflection on the inside of your windows at night?

im not sure what you mean by that....i just couldnt see out of them at all. like they were so dark, that it matched the darkness outside, and i couldnt see where it was i was going. its like walking down a dark hall way or just like going outside at night time with a pair of sunglasses on.

I learned a trick from a window tint place. take a black garbage bag, cut to shape of window, thoroughly coat window with simple green, stick bag to it, and let it cook in the sun for a few hours. Works pretty good, I've tried it. Must be a real hot day though.

Be careful on the back glass not to destroy the defroster.

like he said, try not to use the razorblade on the back window... maybe on the front as well, depending on what kind of coating you may have on there. chances are it will have a slight tint on it from the factory that you could wreck if you s ratch it up

If you have any tint shops near you call them for a price to clean it off. Just had the wife's van redone, he only charged $30 to remove it all.

Well, what I mean is in my 40, the night time glare is pretty bad.

So, if I am waiting to make a turn, say left, I look to my left, but in my window I get a wicked reflection of car headlights coming from my right... Hard to tell from actual vehicles coming from my left.

Pretty annoying, somewhat dangerous...

What year is your cruiser?
On certain years, the tint on the glass is OEM.

91/92 are not as dark, IIRC.

I paid $40 to have it removed from my 62. Best money I ever spent.

Decent tint that isn't too dark is worth it in my opinion but not on every window in the truck. I did all mine except the drivers, passengers and front windows. I've got NO problems at night and it keeps prying eyes out in the daytime.
Down here it becomes a safety issue. If they can't see how many 350lb gorillas are riding in the truck with you they might not hijack you!
