No love for our 60's at TLC.....
Below find a link to the TLC website, and a 60 for sale. Watch the video clip that is on the page. They seem to have no love left for the FJ-60's! And WOW the price!!

The big market is obviously 40's. Fastest turnover, highest profit margin. A carbeurated 2F is a hassle in a 60 but I bet he'd never mention it if it was in one of the 40's they sell for twice as much as this truck.

Whatever their beef with it, I'd like my 60 to be equipped just like that one.

18k for an old car? No freakin way. The pieces and care its received do not add 15k to a 3k truck.
If it were a Jay Leno type collector car out of climate controlled storage with 400 miles on it and all the factory goodies, window sticker and kept under glass, maybe.
Those guys must occasionally find the greater fool.

I'm not sure about the pricing on this one. Is the steering wheel solid gold?

please tell us that you typed wrong or were being sarcastic...because that is over three times more than that truck is worth. Stage one indeed
the other 62 goes for 24K, but it is stage 2...so....
they must not sell many used cruisers. the 40s were like 80K!
If I ever come back to the states, I'll bring my 61 and park it across the street from them with a for sale sign...should make enough to buy a new house in Orange County!

The main add makes a comment something like: "It passed smog-imagine that!" Would there be some reason that an 80's era carbed cruiser would have more difficulty passing than an earlier 40 series?
These adds should make us feel good about our cruisers. After all, they're not that much of a money pit.

I was just saying that 40's sell faster, have broader appeal, and he can get more money on the sale of a 40 than he can a 60 after putting an equal number of man hours into the resto. I bet the only reason he's selling this 60 is that it was basically mint to start with and didn't need anything but a general basic stuff.
No way would he go chopping out rust and rebuilding the engine and all that for a 60 when he couldn't sell it for the cost of his labor. But if your 60 is basically perfect to start with, he'll polish it and flip it. Just good business.

My mistake - I should have put quotes around "hassle". His words, not mine!

no need for sarcasm
I would not pay that much for that FJ60. However, I have zero problem with him asking $18K+ for the rig. To be realistic, there is considerable extra money piled on a basically clean cruiser (winch, bumpers, H55, mirrors, OME lift, etc). We know what that costs...many of us have been through it or are in lust mode. I have good FJ60 and having this guy put an awful price on his only boosts pride of ownership. Also, could help if one needs to sell a rig that has a lot of expensive quality aftermarket upgrades that we currently only get pennys on the dollar for.
I would take his comment about the carburetor in the expanded context of a smogged engine where the entire engine is covered with little tubes and gismos. Admit it; that's a mess.

The way I look at this............if he gets the money for that rig, it will only allow us to look at the values of ours....bring the value up man!!!!! I have more than $10,000 invested in mine. I will never get that back! But I dont care either....I spent money on my cruiser for my needs not the future selling needs. the whole Idea of owning one of these fantastic rigs is the fact that it will be a long lasting rig or our last rig we will have to own. My frame has 375,000 miles on it. Panama to alaska several times..... And will venture many more times in my life.
Bring on the value!!

Wow, look at all the expensive **** in your sig line. Perhaps you should make the damned thing run, reliably, before dragging it thru an offroad catalog with a magnet attached! After all the work it took to install all that, I'd thinhk a couple of water leaks should be minor! ~ TEXX (IH8MUD member) 10/09

If I had the money, I'd go in there with that much cash and act like I just stumbled on it and was ready to buy right then and there. I'd then ask them if they have a website and find this video ad on there.
I'd wasted like three hours of their time doing all the paperwork then at the last second, pull out because of the "The carburetor is kind of a hassle" and "We really don't sell to many of these" comments.
Ha!

There was a nice HJ61 Sahara for sale in Esperance last year for $20000. One owner ,all aussie options with 100000klms on the clock.
Took him a long time to sell but if it was as good as the ad says ,then I think its worth it

Try prying my little fingers away from my rust free 61,NO CHANCE.
Roscoe i thought i paid to much for mine when i seen it,i raced down to melbourne to have a look at it when the wog bloke that was flipping it said "whatta mean by turbo sarger" "it say turbo on pipe on engine"
Any rust in the roof?
"Na we can't a find any rust in da roof gutter"
I was there in a flash, paid i think about $6000,didn't bat an eyelid, the wife said its no so nice!
I said don't worry woman(in my deep serious prospecting voice)its all good!
Now i can't get here out of the dam thing.
Its just come off the road, its having the sunroof filled in as we speak then the overhaul begins,i'll start a thread in the 60's section in the next week or so.
