New prototype Land Cruiser? (see pics)
So I stumbled across some very interesting photos of a new "Cruiser". Does anyone know if this is a prototype? I've never seen anything even close to this and it looks like a tank! You'll notice in the second picture over the wheel you can just make out and old school "Cruiser" emblem.

The door hinges look like they came off a commercial refrigerator. I like the way the doors are expanded out for elbw room. Looks like the windows roll down and everything. A lot of time went into that. A little internet black magic with the license plate number ought to turn something up.

I think there was a writeup a few years ago on a website that documented the build and the trip that followed..... Couple had it built for a S.A. trip by some boat builder iirc..

A boat builder out of Campbell River, BC. (There's lot's of aluminum boat builders in these parts). He called it NewCruiser. I had it book marked at newcruiser.ca, now it's some spanish site. It was a beater HJ-60 that he built the body for. I've seen it on Vancouver Island a few times.

Hand fabricated? Wow, impressive. I thought the Icon was had made! This guy looks like he pulled hinges off a cold storage freezer to hand those doors.
Thanks for the info, I'll see what additional information I can find on-line.

The New Cruiser: it's ours.
Hi, my wife Raenelle and I built the truck quite a number of years ago. Most of the history on this thread is correct - we lived in Campbell River on Vancouver Island at the time. I worked for an aluminum boat fabricator ( Wolf Boats), and we built it for long distance overland travelling. It's built on an old 60 series that was rusted out but mechanically excellent.
It's a 2H diesel, since AXT turboed. It turned over 500,000 km in the middle of the Peruvian Andes about this time last year, and works flawlessly. It has full floating cable locked axles. Full of gear it weighs 6400 lbs. Empty it weighs 5600 lbs.
The hinges on the door DO look like refridgerator hinges, good call. Except we bought them instead of salvaging them.
Integrated snorkel, yes. Integrated (but not JDM) rear ladder, check. Drives pretty well, has a few design flaws, but it's Toyota simple and has never left me stranded, even when broken. It has always been able to limp me home.
We arrived to our new home in Victoria BC last January after 6 months in South America. The truck is sadly sitting outside with a crack in the frame above the drivers side rear shackle. The rear shock mounting cross member sheared off when driving over a Mexican speed bump and was shodily repaired on the road. It needs fixing too.
And finally, as if to spite me, the gear shift sheared off! on my way to a grocery, 5 minutes from the house. So, I figured, it wants a rest. And a rest it shall have...
...that is untill I wire the garage so I can turn the welder back on and get to work. In the meantime, it's the trusty Subaru for me.
We had a website on it since 2000, but last April there was some "confusion" with our domain registrar and it was purchased by someone else, who seems to switch it between spanish webcam porn and a search engine optimization scheme. In any case I've reposted it to
The Truck | New Cruiser: Expeditions
You can read about it there. I'm not really a big forum guy, I've got too much going on - so no disrespect, I'll duck out now and leave you to it.
Best regards.
