Desperate Plea
I have been trying for months to get an FJ43 here from Bogota Colombia. A lot of problems with paperwork and then an all go and thought it was on its way but a problem with the shipping company and a halt since that moment in time.
If anyone can help please let me know. If I can't get it here I'm just going to have to sell it to someone down there that is going to get a steal on it.
Really I just need someone down there that can get it done, get it to a shipping company and get it here. I have all of the paperwork, it is legal, it is good to go.
You wouldn't think it is so hard but Colombia (if you are not there) is a very difficult place to work with.
Thanks

Tough situation. for starters answer the who where and what general stuff for people to get a general idea of what it entails.
Where is the truck right now? what city? what is it that you specifically need help with?

Hmm, I used to know a guy who expedited stuff from Columbia, not sure if he's back in circulation yet.

I shipped a motorcycle to Santiago, Chile and rode it to Ushuaia, hung out for a week and the plan was to go back to Santiago, pack the bike back in a shipping container and fly home. Seemed at the time though that I really ought to ride S/A from tip to tip so I plotted a course to the northern tip of Columbia and took off.
I had no idea their shipping and tourism situation could be so fubar'd. Absolute cluster getting out. Absolute. It required a much bigger set of conversations and meetings with their customs people ( they were called Aduana) and the customs people liked to see a ton of paperwork. They also seemed to have an addiction to red stamps. Smeary red stamps were a clear indication of authority in their culture.
It took me 10 days of being holed up in a shithole hotel in Cartagena before I could get out and even then I had to ship the bike back to FLA rather than to Panama as I had intended. Once the correct Aduana agents were found then I had to coordinate (with their help) the lease of a 20' ocean going shipping container to put the bike in. Then go with the Aduana folks to the port, put the bike in and strap it down, then have a few machine gun characters and their german shepherds sniff the crap out of me.
Then the bike was sealed in the otherwise empty container and I was back on the street but with a stack of red smeared stamps on illegible to me documents. I went to the airport and booked a flight; had my stuff sniffed and my parts patted many times; metal detectors, the whole nine yards... then finally boarded a plane for FLA as it was the easiest destination to coordinate out.
An example of how botched the Aduana coordination went:
The first Aduana guy I met with came to my hotel. Didn't speak a lick of english so we were having serious trouble across the board. He said his associate spoke xlnt english and he'd be back in one day; same time / same place. The associate shows up 2 days later wondering what we wanted and not particularly well informed on any of what we needed. Like he might've been an apprentice Aduana that didn't own a watch or a calendar.
No fun... but it's doable. Log on to find Aduana agents and correspond with them via email. I'd bet this can be cleared up within a week or two.
Total boar's nest and I don't have any connections in Bogata.
(Edit: I see you bought a vehicle with a sketchy history and no VIN plate, etc. Sorry, no help here.)

Yep,
Is a real pain. Doable if you are there a real pain if you are not. Anyway glad I guess this got moved to the Chit-chat sorry bout that.
But yeah all of the info is in the main thread I started almost a year ago.
Just discouraged and tired of it all. Probably just going to sell the thing. Just a car that is 18 inches longer is all.

I know some people in Bogota. I'll send them a message and ask them if they know of anyone that can help expedite shipping a vehicle to the US.
I'll let you know what I hear.

NaterGator,
I really appreciate the help. I've been trying for 10 months now to get this here and I hate to give up now but I'm just running out of time and people I know there.

I didn't read all the details in the other threads.
But, if you can get the car to Barranquilla, I know someone who can export it to Miami (only).

Good point. I would guess that in Barranquilla there would be a far better chance of getting on a freighter than from Bogata where the easiest connection would probably be air to Panama, etc.
