Bye-bye, everyone...

...thanks for the memories.

I have decided to commit political suicide. I'm done talking about politics. I'm done hearing about politics. I'm done thinking about politics.

I've been a politics junkie for most of my life. I watched the Iran Contra hearings when I was a kid, and the course was set. Hunter Thompson later uncovered a perspective on politics that I had no idea existed. Politics was interesting. Fun, even.

No more. There are no objective facts with which to argue, just spin camps and doctored numbers, volleyed from within. The game is so dominated by seasoned professionals, at this point, that monitoring senate hearings or legislation is merely watching the boardroom antics of a handful of policy companies, all vying for a bigger slice of the policy industry. These are merely middle management and executive officers arguing semantics over the scraps of our country. Might as well be Eisner or Wozniak or Jobs, whose words we wait upon with bated breath. Hell, at least we know who the titans of global corporate business really work for.

If I can view politicians as merely different kind of businessmen, what would that make a politics junkie like me? A different kind of consumer, one of the policy industry. We argue one brand over another, one company's wares and services over another. Republicans or Democrats, Skippy or Jif, T-Mobile or Verizon. It's all processed for most folks' tastes, and it's all bullshit. We are mass consumers of bullshit, nothing more. We are no smarter or better off than the fellow that paints his body and goes to the game to scream and yell for "his" team, a team owned by a corporation and coldly distributed as a product meant for market-tested mass consumption. He gets roughly the same results as a politics junkie, a vague sense of belonging, a little less shame, and no matter which side wins, a lighter wallet.

So, enjoy the game, gentlemen. I'm changing the channel.

Tchk-tchk....Bang!!!

Shahramlock, you will be back. Count on it.

But yeah, I feel the pain. A while back I made the analogy to Major League Baseball--a lot of noise about competing, and fan loyalty, etc., but really, it's all about making money for the man.

I believe your tainted view of politics makes you a perfect candidate for a public office.

You're headed the wrong way.

Turn around.

the sooner you can say they all suck and they are all a bunch of crooks you won't take a political side. i have looked at both sides and they equally suck and equally lie.

Hopefully you will still chime in on some non political threads. I've always enjoyed your take on things and "no holds barred" writing style.
