Should I take this Jeep? (It's free)
Friend of dad's called up and wants to give us his '53 4x4 Willys Wagon. We had no idea what kind of shape it was in, went to look at it today.
It has very little rust aside from the peeled off chrome. Body is straight except for one spot where it looks like somewhat cut a corner too sharp. It was kept inside until 6 months ago, also the last time it ran. Owner took the carb off to fix it and never did.
All the discoloration on the paint will wash off. Worst thing on the truck is the headliner.
I don't really need another project, as I barely have enough time to spend on my two cruisers. BUT, this thing seems to be like it could be driving with very little work.
Anyone know anything about these? Take it?

Can't see the pic, but I love the Willys 4wd Wagons, it's not a jeep! I almost had one about 12 years ago, went to look at it, arranged to buy it the next day, owner called to tell me it was stolen that night... :aaargh:

Ill come take it if you dont. These Willys wagons are one of my favorites. You gonna let a headliner stop you? - DUDE, grab that thing!!!
I saw a beautiful teal one about 6 months ago on a forest road that had about a 4 inch lift, 33's and a 350 chevy in it. Older guy with his wife. He says people want to buy it off him all the time - me included.
Here is one I found surfing:

Willys Jeep Wagoneers are totally sweet.
My piney neighbor had one when we were kids that had one of those awful big fish decals on the back. It also said "Bluefish" because that was his CB handle. Did alot of surf fishing on the beach in that rig. I can still smell the exhaust fumes coming in .

Yes, Mattlock, you should take it.
Wait, on the other hand, you shouldn't. You should tell the owner you don't have the time for it, but your old pal sisukid does...

OK, now that the pics are up, I agree with the others... stupid question. If you win a multi-million dollar lottery, are you going to post up on 'mud ask us if you should redeem your winning ticket?

No, the question was not completely serious.
After I saw it, there wasn't really any doubt that we should take it, even though our 4 Cruisers already keep me more than busy. Really interested to see if anyone on 'Mud knew much about these. (Parts avail. etc)
I don't need another project, but it became pretty obvious that it probably won't take a ton of work for this thing to be driving around town.
According to the owner, the only things keeping it from running/driving is the carbuerator is off and missing a float pin, and the drivers side e-brake is stuck.
Hopefully going down to pick it up this week. Tough part is going to be getting it on the trailer with a stuck wheel.
Other interesting bit is that Georgia doesn't title vehicles this old. Getting a tag/insurance might be interesting.

This is a Land Cruiser forum so that makes your statement very fitting.

get a bill of sale baily, I think that's all you need, I realize it's free but if he's the ;ast registered owner get something. Years ago Trucks did a build up on one of those, came out kinda redneck cool.

That's what the owner told us. He never bothered to tag it, as he just kept it on a farm, but we'll have to.
It was titled and tag'ed in Tennesee in the 80's, I have that title, and last tag'ed in GA in 87 or 88, still have that tag.
Looking forward to (slowly) cruising around in this thing.

I have a free jeep, better than any LC I have to pay for . I'm working part time now, but the boss is stuck with a three-year lease and no-one else to give it to. He talked about putting his wife in it - right, take her out of her Lexus for this .
