Unfortunately, this goes a little bit both ways...
Btw, we're doing easy runs every so often, so that stock(-ish) vehicles can go as well. Examples were Bulldog Canyon over T-day, or Walnut Canyon on New Year's day...
...but I thought after the thermostat/temp switch disaster on that CSC wrenching day that you wouldn't trust anyone any longer anyways...
Regarding that seal: it's not that tricky (yes, you can booger one up, but it's not a given), but it's messy as hell with all that grease-gear oil goo in the way. As for the breathers, I'm using the inexpensive braided PU hose, from the hardware store (iirc it was 3/8" id), to extend from the breather port up and away from the axle, hose clamps to hold it on, a few zip ties here and there to rout it, and an el cheapo fuel filter from the auto parts store help section on the end of the line to keep stuff out.
Seems to have worked fairly well over the years.

T-Day and NYD, I usually spend with my fam, and they don't care to go wheeling.
I seem to recall every time a run would come up, it was as all-day, difficult affair, half-way across the state.
That, and more often than not, they were scheduled for days I just couldn't do. Or something was broken at the time. Or some other inconvenience.
Actually, I was incredibly pleased with the work the guys did helping me on Wrenching day. I think they went way out of their way, and I was super impressed.
Extending the breathers is on my to-do list. Unfortunately, it's about #47.

Extending the breathers is super easy and obviously worthwhile. When I did it on my FJ62 I used fuel hose from Napa, two hose clamps, two cheapie fuel filters, and some zip ties. Cost me like $20 and took about 15 minutes.

Idjits on Wall Street
I am coming to think it doesn't need a bail-out, they need a boot-out - some of them may even need a bail-in

I think I was able seat them on the 80, but I was either using old rotors/new lugs or the opposite, it's been so long I forget.
On the 40, I was using DBA rotors with new lugs. I couldn't get them to go, and I didn't want to risk breaking the $$ rotors.

did I mention we were having a conference here (I did not go) with the Groceries Manufacturers of America
a colleague came back and said: "somehow everything we can suggest to them does not align with their economic interests"

OIC
I was putting DBA rotors on my FJ62 hubs. I knocked out the old lugs with a BFH and pressed in the new ones with my pig ass wrench. Maybe I got lucky.

Grrrl, I'm going to post up the list of supplies we'll need so it's teakettled and we don't miss anything:
1) 3 cans brake cleaner
2) 2-3 tubs of moly grease (I use Mobil 1 for bearings and birfs, but that could be a grave cruiser error
3) 2 rolls of shop paper towels
3.5) section of pipe to separate birf (guess a sledge would work too, never tried that method
4) brass drift
5) cold chisel to help remove cone washers and to help remove seal if needed
6) torque wrench (~30-90 lb ft range)
7) 1/2" to 3/4" adaptor for the wheel bearing lock nut socket
8) snap ring pliers
9) brass or lead hammer
10) pvc pipe or other seal insertion tool
11) drain pan for oil and to use when cleaning birfs and wheel bearings if needed
12) various metric sockets, ratchets and wrenches (10, 12, 14, 17 and maybe 19 for the steering arms)
13) fish scale
14) gear lube
15) brake fluid in case we have to pull the caliper, not familiar with the 62, on the runner I modded them so I didn't have to.
16) 10mm flare nut wrench
17) jack and jack stand
18) socket for the drain plug or 10mm allen if you've converted to allen type
19) small flat bladed screwdriver to wedge in slot of cone washers.
I have all of the above, obviously the less tools I have to pack the better, though I don't mind bringing what's needed. Uncle Fred should have a jack and stand I can bring.
