so, the options as I see them right now:

2) upgrade office computer OS and software - lose MacMail and our favorite DNA analysis program

3) keep office computer as is, retire it to run the specialty applications - buy a whole new office computer, or a laptop, or an AirBook (or all of them )

Option 3 is the wise path, IMHO. You get to keep your specialy apps running on a box that is set up to your liking. AND, you get a brand new machine that will be up to specs and which you can set up with the more modern OS and gubmint-pleasing stuffs. And let's face it--you'll tweak the new computer so that it'll be just how you want it anyway, right? Win/Win.
