btw, i need a fun book for my 11 year old wise beyond his years nephew. he is one of those kids who only likes (immature) adult stuff, so you can't just give him standard kid's books. I am giving him world war Z. any suggestions on something else he would find cool.

Er... other way around. Scrapheap Challenge came first. TLC ripped off the concept from the BBC - like they have with a lot of their shows.

Nah, those are very different.
War of the Worlds is mostly about the attack and the war, not about the post-apocalyptic society. In Day of the Triffids the apocalypse happens literally overnight and then we have to deal with it. The Triffids/zombies are not the cause of the apocalypse, just opportunists.
I'm not dissing War of the Worlds. It's definitely been ripped off a gazillion times and I'm sure elements of both books are in a lot of the same movies and books since.

Do you really get much advantage? Think how much the headlight is really turned when you are in a turn. Also the bike is leaning over so what turning of the headlight there is tends to point it into the ground. I'd rather have it body mounted...

heinlein is a good idea teh moon is a harsh mistress might be interesting for him. i think i have a copy so i will check it for naughty parts.
his parents exercise no control over what he sees or reads and he watches R movies all the time, but i would not want him to read something i would not let semlinson read since they are the same age. last year he had a zombie video game for christmas from his mum that was so violent and realistic i would not let my kids watch him play it

i was saying wotw is teh blueprint for modern apocalypse books/movies not teh triffids movie. in most modern apocalypse movies the zombies/plague etc.. causes teh apocalypse and is the main antagonist. also, wotw has a bunch of post-apocalypse narrative in it as he scurries around a depopulated london scavanging food and meeting weirdo characters.

I believe they are. There is a story in Buffalo about how a "hippie" ran out onto the rodeo arena a while back, he was chased down by cowboys and they cut his hair off.
granted, he shouldn't have ran out there, but people seemed to enjoy telling me that story when I had long hair.

Yes, I do. I'm talking about slower speeds than you--remember, I live in a city, lots of 90 degree turns at 10-20 mph.
