She started it on vacation, could have easily read the whole thing, but the teacher asked her not to read past a certain point. When Thanksgiving break was over, and all the kids came back, the teacher realized that she was short one book (not sure why--either a book was missing, or a student lost a book), so today she asked my daughter to give her book to another student, because that student hadn't ready anything over break and was way behind and needed a book, and asked if anyone lived near the library and could check out a copy of the book the class was reading. Well, my daughter said she lived a block away from the library, so the teacher said "Fine, check it out tonight and read the next chapter for tomorrow."
Of course, the book wasn't at the library--someone had checked it out. Now my daughter is all freaked because she will be a chapter behind.
Pretty goofy way to run a classroom. The student that would have been finished with the book if the teacher had let her now will be falling behind.
I just took her to B&N when I got home and bought her her own copy. I made sure she wrote her name on the inside front cover and told her that if anyone tried to take this copy away, she should hit them.

What a good dad. I can't have kids cuz I would have said, "Should have held your ground and told the teacher to shove it up her ass. Now your fucked."

So are Good-n-Plenty. I bought a small box last week. The pepperminty candy coating mixed with the licorice center is pretty bad. Though I did finish the box

and a couple more, after having had a nice steak dinner here in KC, the bike found its home for the night at the Super8. The clerk saw the bike and declared, "that's a BMW--park it right out front under the cover!" The last pic is of the seller--reluctant seller for sure. He rode with me on his Yamaha. It's brr tonight and will be brrrr in the morning . . .

yes, indeed he does. He painted that 1979 Yamaha himself--I'm not so fond of the blue on that but the rest looks good. On the Beemer, the Mandarin is just gorgeous.

Today's WSJ had a nice graph of state budget deficits. California has a solid lead at $28b. NY is runner up at $6b. There is zero political will here to cut entitlements or the state agencies. At this point it's not an incremental taxation issue or budget cut issue. We already have one of the highest state income tax rates in the nation. It's going to get ugly.
