I don't anticipate having any kind of retention/thumb break for this one's holster. My IWB holster for mine is open top, works good for me.

Having a hammer is nice on occasion though.
Now that I think about it, the sights catch way more than the hammer does for mine.

Having your hubs locked is no big deal. It only matters if the transfer case is placed in 4Lo or 4Hi and you're on hard surface/paved roads. You can leave the hubs locked on a 60 or 62 forever and NEVER have a problem.

IWB is going to be your best best for that weapon. But keep in mind, you get to more frequently layer your clothing up there in Beloit than I do in Houston, making the task of concealment MUCH easier for a much greater portion of the year.

Keep your nomenclature straight.
This is a shrouded hammer.
Model 38
You can cock the hammer, it just doesn't stick out much.

That's a clip holster I think.
You gotta try out IWB holsters in person. I've never found one that is comfortable for me.
I've been very happy with Don Hume products. Don Hume Leathergoods, manufactures high quality leather and nylon goods.

Yes the shrouded hammer models were named Bodyguard by S&W
Yeah, concealed hammer is all sealed up inside. The downside is that they are double action only.
I've never carried any revolver but my Ruger .22 though, so I got no advice on hammers...

The pics you showed are often referred to as "hammerless". There used to be actual shrouds that would attach to revolvers, like this:

I've resisted calling them hammerless...because they still have a hammer hiding in there.
