One of my prized shirts in my twenties was a Dubuque Fighting Saints mock sweater. On the front it had the team name and logo and on the back was a Red Cross and words that stated "Give Blood, Play Hockey". It was bitchin'.

Carlton & United Beverages (CUB) is a huge brewing concern that owns the Carlton, Fosters, Victoria, Shamrock, Castlemaine, and McCracken breweries and has formed a cartel. Fosters IS sold in Australia but it is a name that is really strongly pushed in foreign markets because it is known. This is similar to when Chrysler Corp markets vehicles in Europe and badges them as a Chrysler even though the exact same vehicle in the US is badged as Dodge. It's all about branding and name recognition.

If "Fosters" is a gimmick, then it's a gimmick like "Coors", which is much more popular outside the Rockies than it is within the region. That's not to say that Coors is not sold in the Rockies but it's just not hugely popular there.

But if you've been to OZ, you KNOW that they sell the big oil cans of different beers--and some of those are CUB labels.

No Fosters is pretty common there, but there is a separate version that is made just for the U.S.

The Australia version is better of course. You can get it here sometimes. I forget how to tell the difference - I think DD knows.

I think the Australian version is the same as Victoria Bitter, which I enjoyed. I have a VB T-shirt in fact...

Fosters is a huge beer company and makes a lot of different beers...

Yoop can see it.

But no, it was the pen shell that probably put a puncture in my foot.

Some Neosporin and a bandage and 24 hours and I'm all better, it seems. But walking around the airport yesterday was pretty painful.

I have been, and I know of said big ass cans of beer. I also know they sell Jim Beam cola, which makes me oh-so-jealous.

I am beat - another perfect day in the desert

no breakage, although a long hillclimb proved too much for me Michael and I turned around and met the others halfway around the mountain

we were almost outnumbered by Blazers in the end, it was 3:3

we pulled a completely stuck Bronco out of the sandy creekbed

There were a bazillion augers there. And I did find a few king's crown shells. One I pulled up for my daughter to see (it was alive) and it was like it was ringed with shark's teeth. So maybe it was one of those as well. I know I stepped on a bunch of shit, but didn't know I had a cut until I was walking through the airport, and had to sit down and squeeze a bunch of pus out of my heel before I could continue. Wife and two kids all went "Ewwwwwwwwwww!"

It also probably didn't help that my method of finding shells went like this: walk in water up to my armpits, step on shit, pull it up and see what it is. Stupid tourists. The funniest was when it turned out to be a huge crab.

Keep it clean. There are some nasty critters in the ocean that will fawk you up pretty good if you don't stay on top of the problem. Wicked nasty infections and what not. Puss ain't a great sign, most shell cuts get bathed in so much saltwater that they just hurt and heal pretty cleanly. If it's pussing days later it's a good sign the shell had some deep-sea nasty on it and you need to scrub that fucker good.

At least you're (presumably) going back to the cold where you won't feel your feet

When we moved my son into his new room, it didn't have a door, so I went today to get one for me to install. Got the right size, I planed down the sides so that it fit properly, then I mortised the hinges on the door, then on the frame. . . . shit. The spot where the top hinge was set to go was actually all chewed up from a previous hinge and then patched with filler. So I had to drop the top hinge by about 3" Now I have to patch the spot on the door where I mortised the top hinge the first time as well as the frame. Good thing I'm painting this. . . .

My mom got a near lethal stingray sting doing that. Stood on a juvie stingray (felt like a crab pinch apparently) that couldn't control it's venom and pumped her full. A hour later she was in the ER with around 10x the typical max invenomation. That was the first time I ever got to drive a car (age 14)

I'm surprised you didn't find any sand dollars. Anyways usually the best spot for shelling is at the shellbank (oddly enough) where the waves are rolling up the beach at low tide. Tons of sharks teeth and shells in that area. In fact the sw coast of Fl is the sharks teeth capital of the world, apparently.
