John, how do I put this in plain english (or should I make it french for you since you're canadian)?
Shut the fuck up and get out of my thread you pretentious cunt. I specifically stated it also happens with Martinelli's apple juice, which is about as "pure" and authentic as you can get without grinding the apple against a piece of slab yourself. If you think that my coveted apple juice is "laced with toxins" (laced, in your context, is defined as: "to adulterate with a substance", I'm fairly certain that Motts isn't interested in hooking me on a substance) then I can't help but come to the conclusion that you are a twat who thinks that everybody is out to get you. Dear John, I asked for the opinion and advice of trained MDs of mud, not your speculative "plant your own organic vegan seeds, water your own tree, juice your organic vegan apples, pre-digest your own organic vegan juice" bullshit. Go spread your nonsense on youtube or myspace where insignificant and impressionable retards might actually buy into it, but spare me the crap. I know enough to know that what I'm experiencing isn't caused by China letting anti-freeze slip into my apple juice. Apparently you are stupid enough to think that, or something like it, however.
To the others in this thread that have tried to contribute meaningfully:
scottm: yes it is consistent. It always happens, and always with apple juice.
Randy: I doubt it is the pH because I tolerate other considerably more acidic foods very well.
Mountain Goat: no, I can drink very sour lemonade, for example, copiously without problem. It is very specifically limited to apple juice, and only apple juice.
JJS: if it was an allergy I would suspect I would react to apples themselves, or even very small (1/2oz or less) amounts of apple juice. I do not, though.
Wristy: interesting, but I doubt that's it since the rest of the population seems to have no trouble digesting it.

Nate did you see the Tucker Max link in Liam's drink wife thread? Might be something to it.

I wonder if some of the info in these links would help? Could it be related to brand?

Clear or Cloudy - Choosing Which Apple Juice Is Best for Good Health
What do we know about allergies and fruit juice? Most commercially available fruit juices are manufactured with aseptic heat packaging, a process through which most allergens will be denaturated, except for lipid transfer protein, which occur in apples and other fruit. Thus, an allergy is unlikely. What about intolerance? Apple juice has one of the highest fructose contents among fruit juices and can cause gastro-intestinal (GI) symptoms such as flatulence and diarrhoea, especially in young children, due to malabsorption of fructose. Malabsorption has been found in children with intakes of as little as 15ml fruit juice/kg body weight. So, a case of fructose intolerance?
When fructose was excluded from the diet and lactose reintroduced, the diarrhoea disappeared immediately. Fructose intolerance was diagnosed, and it was then left up to the mother to determine what level of fructose (in diluted form) her son could tolerate.

Can't say I really know, but a quick google around the net suggests this isn't exactly a rare complaint. I agree with those who suggest that its related to the relative concentration of some apple component, presumably acid content or fructose, or perhaps both together.
I might have missed whether this is a relatively new problem or not, but a thought I had is this: perhaps you have an ulcer or gastritis recently, and a bolus of apple juice on an empty stomach is irritating (you said that it's relatively dose dependent: 10 oz is worse than 3 oz). If you drink juice after a heavy meal does it act the same?

I love juice and also get small stomach aches from it. I started cutting my juice years ago with about 1/2 water. Problem went away and the juice lasts longer, saving money. Also, juice on an empty stomach would do it.
Try cutting it with some water and see what happens.

I have this as well. I am capable of eating food spicier than Thai chefs eat with no problem, a gallon of grapefruit juice, coffee, lemonade, cranberry...nothing. However, a shot glass of apple juice, any kind, will have me praying for a kidney stone. The reflux is so severe I almost call an ambulance. Seriously. I can eat a few bites of an apple, but more than that, same thing. If apple juice is higher than the 5th or 6th ingredient in a juice blend, I pass, or else.
Other than lactose intollerance (which prompted my veganism), the only other allergy or intollerance I know I have is to Fabreze, which will put me in the hospital.

This seems contradictory, to me. Who wants to see their kids knocked-up?
Back to the topic at hand.... I get that sometimes, regardless of the brand of juice, but I never get it with cider, so I stick to cider.
it's important to differentiate between juice and cider. If you're having trouble telling them apart, here's a little trick to help you:
"If it's clear and yella, you've got juice there, fella! If it's tangy and brown, you're in cider town!"

I was already a lacto-ovo vegetarian. The horrible consequences of no longer producing lactase and still trying to drink milk is what got me to give up dairy. I didn't go from omnivore to vegan in one fell swoop. Those that do don't last, in general.
