I tried to recover from the garage operator after I drove my bike (which was riding on my car's roof) into a concrete beam in our building's parking garage. I drove in under the clearance pole with my head out the window watching the bike clear the bar by about 18". No problem, so I thought: they mis-marked the clearance, so they owe me for the damage. Didn't quite work out like that. They knew it'd cost me more for them to pay than it was worth. Then they lost 26 contract slots two months later.
Edit: the part about losing the paying slots was a lie to make the story sound better.

See yours sounds so much better than mine. Maybe I should have said that the guy was putting up the sign AS my wife was driving through.
Or....
I could have said that my wife was diddling herself and didn't see the sign. Got out, saw the damage and went back to diddling herself.
I dunno, I could go on. Both of those sound sooo much cooler than the truth.

Yes, bikes do get stolen all the time. I've witnessed it in my place when I was out on the balcony. I yelled at the fuckers and they (what's that joke about when you see someone riding a bike as fast as they can?) ran.
I had an industrial cable and master lock run through the frame and the front wheel. It's still there.....
What's the going rate for selling a rear bike wheel? $5? That's not a lot of crack.

Sometimes people steal bike wheels just to be dicks. Or to replace the one that somebody else stole.

Hell, maybe it will get better gas mileage without the roof rack!
I have a friend who manages a ski/sport shop. He had me on the floor laughing telling me stories about people who lost cargo boxes, roof racks, etc to car washes, garage doors, etc. Happens all the time.

Can't find a spot on the first level, she drives down, past the second level. Past the third level and finally arrives to the 4th level. As she is negotiating a turn she said she heard a horrible noise and then a sound like something banging on the rear hatch.
She gets out and lo and behold! The roof rack was ripped right off the roof. She looks over and see a small sign:
'6'1" Max Headroom'
......hidden by a minivan parked illegally right in front of it.
So anyway, she says that the rack is off and she can't see any scrapping on the roof at all. What I am really worried about is how much damage the nutserts getting pulled out of the roof will actually have. We'll see tonight.

Ouch. Sorry dude. Two reasons why I take cabs downtown.

Also the signmaker who should have anticipated his sign being blocked, and the cement contractor who poured the floor too high. By the way how the hell did they get a cement truck in a parking garage with that clearance?

I was referring to a common tort law
Negligence being the breach of a duty that causes harm
The duty being that of the Automobile Drivers duty or "Automobile drivers have a duty to obey the statutory rules of the road"
By parking in an area that is clearly marked "no parking" that driver is breaching there duty of the "rules of the road" as a result causing harm
Im no lawyer just trying t help

I've lost my antenna to my garage door once and car wash twice. Doesn't seem as pathetic as a roof rack though

So I figured I would follow up this hell hole of a thread and at least get the pictures up. I will be going next week to get estimates on it. More than likely I will find a body shop to just cover the holes for cheap.
The fronts of both rails were fine. No damage to the nutserts and no damage to the roof. The plastic just broke clean off.
Now on the rear of the rails thats a different story. You can see where the front of the rack was hit and it compressed the rear down. Both the rear sides of the rails have warped the roofline.
On the passenger side you can where the most damage was done, it actually pulled the nutserts part of the way out and banged up the roof the most. From the ground you can't really see anything. Its only when you step on the bumper do you see the damage.
Not sure what the heck the white stuff is? Pretty sure its not laundry detergent or cocaine

OMG. I think Woody made BHM take Xanax or something to be allowed on the playground. He couldn't have created that level of self-restraint naturally in just a few months...
I think I might be upset about this.
